Not to replace the JK but to complement it! My buddy wants to trade me his 79 F-150 for two mountain bikes I've got (mine that I never ride and my fiancee's that she never rides). The Furd runs okay (been sitting a while) has 351(M?), 4 speed (whatsit sm435? whatever stock is), NP205, and 44/9". The body has some rot (bed floor is shot and cab floor has some holes in it). The bikes in question are a Trek Liquid 20 and a Trek WSD 400 somethingeruther. (about $1800 total original retail value when I bought them but the 20 is about 4 (maybe 6, IDK, time flies!) years old and the 400 is 2 (maybe 4???) years old) What do y'all think, should I go for it?

On the plus side for the truck, it gives me something to tinker with that I don't have to worry about messing up (not expensive and NOT my DD), and I can practice my welding putting in patch panels!

Only downside is, I was just considering getting back into mountain biking (my fiancee hates biking though), BUT, I was considering buying a hardtail since the F/R travel the 20 offers is a way beyond what I need now.

Id love to find a decent truck like that for a project, but I know nothing about the bikes.

If the wife doesnt care, Id see if he would throw in cash with the truck in the trade.

She seems quite fond of the idea (she hates biking) but, there is no more cash option!

Frame is solid, I have been under the truck working on it a couple times. The bed sides are good, as are the fenders. The floor of the cab and the bed floor both just need patch panels. I am thinking it could make a good run to the dump truck (and a fun mud rig!).... just can't spend any real $$$ on it or the fiancee will kill me!!!

79 was a good year. Look at the radius arms, the ones that go from the front axle back to the frame.
They should be solid cast iron, or maybe they are nodular steel, they always looked like cast to me.
If they are stamped sheet metal, its an 80 or later.
79 was the last good 150. After that, everything got downsized and lightened.

You even have a place on the driver's side for a second battery if you want to go dual.
I owned one for 10 years and did some terrible things to it, and it took them all.
When I got a new one, I had to go to a 250 to get its equivalent.

The PTO opening on the passenger side is crying for a winch to be hooked to it.....

I'd do it. Either way it seems youve got something that your girl doesn't care for, so do what you want.

I think I would have to do it. I kinda like that body style of ford and that one seems to be in fair shape.

Uh-oh, now the fiancee says she doesn't want me to do it. (after having acted like she wanted me to! (was talking about "when" we have the truck, now no?)) We'll see how this pans out, wish me luck! I'll keep y'all posted!

I'm stock Blazer crazy but I daily drive a Ford....but if I ever wanted to build one for the trail, there's a guy down the street that has a very nice stock IH Scout that's been in his back yard for about 8 years...looks solid from what I can tell...either he won't sell it or he is asking too much...not sure which...I'll stop by one day and take pics and ask.

Keep the bikes, and buy the Ford, from the savings of dumping the girlfriend.

Then, find some new girlfriends who are into bike riding, and fourwheeling. And maybe another one to clean the house / cook dinner.:waytogo:
