Hey guys, I posted that thread the other day about what year K5 to buy. I am now going against what I decided (73'-75') and have found a 1972 for sale. It has a 396 bored out to 402 cubic inches, TH350, the NP205, A/C, heat, fiberglass top, looks like it has never been off-road, new paint...and the best part is the fuel injection. All for $7,000, what you experts think?

if the body is straight and fairly rust free i can see it being worth that, FI on the engine is nice...

Suspension, tires, axles?

Sounds like a good starting point at least. Only thing I'd be scared of is '72 vintage axles and brakes with that brute of an engine...and then maybe big tires too.

SNAP POP PING!

Passed up on a '72 twelve years ago and have been kicking myself ever since.

Thanks for the input AJ, I was worried about the axles also. But, the blazer has no lift, has street tires, and looks like it has never seen the dirt. The body panels look straight and it has been in Nevada so the rust is minimal...I have seen lots of pics. The front and rear bumper have dents, but it does not matter to me anyway cause they are coming off eventually so I can bend my own. As it is, I will have to do nothing to it for the rest of the summer and then I have my 496, D60 and 14 bolt to install. So the axles only have to last until I break them...and since its too warm to go to the desert in the summer, they should be fine for a while :)

I am driving out Sunday morning to look at and most likely buy it. For sure I will become a member and get some pics up!

you don't have 2 be a member to post pics...just upload them to a hosting site like photobucket(its free) then copy and paste the html in your post here, just put the html(the 2nd line under the pics on photobucket)..to post them here use the yellow button that looks like mountains on it and copy from photobucket to the line that button on here gives you and your pics should show up here.

as to the blazer 73-75's are cool, but i'd take a 69-72 over 1 anyday, so don't 2nd guess yourself to much...you makin a good choice! especially if its as nice as you described....now about the 402 you pullin to replace w/your 496...any plans for the 402? =)

Pull up the front carpets and check the footwells for rust in the corners near the door jamb. Check the upper parts of the windshield frame for rust also.

Fresh paint is nice, but only if it's not there to hide problems.

Mechanical issues are a lot simpler to fix than rust issues.

Hey guys...just got back from Vegas...nice long trip. And I have NO new blazer with me. It was one of those cases where it was not what it seemed. I was willing to shell out $6-$7 grand for something that I would not have to stick money into for the rest of the summer. It turns out that I would have had to spend a lot more in seals for the heads, tranny, transfer case, both axles and other stuff too. The pics I saw were taken 10 months ago after a $300 detail...and has since been sitting in the Nevada sun. Only thing it had going for it was very little rust. I pulled up the carpets and checked. For a fuel injected big block it was pretty lethargic. I probably could beat it in a race on my mountain bike! Oh well, it was only the first one I looked at so there will be more. Oh yeah, I took my friend with me who is a mechanic and he agreed on not buying it. Sorry Blazin Blzr...no 402 for you...yet.

ZJ, since we are in the same town I'll keep my eye out for a first gen in the OC area. I'm in sales so I drive all over SoCal so I'll keep a lookout for you and let you know what I can find.

Hey Big Blzn...thanks for the lookout! I found a 74' on craigslist and am going to email them now. Lets see what happens.

So, I now have a new toy. 1974 K5 with the 350 and auto, and a nice flowmaster exhaust. I will get some pics up there soon. It is white, with no dents, some rust up above the windshield and very clean. Downside, does not have the NP205 (NP203) , and the steering is sloppy. We picked it up today in Torrence and drive it down to Costa Mesa on the freeway...stop and go traffic with no overheating issues. Took the top off and damn, had no idea it was that heavy! Almost killed myself. Spare tire mount on the back, but it is bolted to the body and the tire is too big for it. That will be fixed when I do my own bumpers though. It has balding 33"s and a lift...not sure how big but don't really care. It will last me through summer with hopefully no issues then I can start installing the new go-fast parts...yeah!

Oh yeah, it was less then I had planned on spending and then I talked him down an extra $800...paid $4K. I can deal with that.

congrats!! id love to have a full convert. ill probably try to find a rust free shell to put on my M1009 chassis after this body rusts away and falls off on the trail ;)

sloppy steering might be worn hub bearings or a bad power steering pump. those repairs on my truck made major improvements to driveability.

cheapest full convert i could find in my area was a rust bucket, that needed major work, hemoraging fluids everywhere, and they wanted 6k for it, and wouldnt budge. im happy with my M1009 though, the 1969 wasnt diesel ;)
