Using a '74 K5 chassis and an '80 C20 cab, I was thinking of tubing the rear much like monster trucks have in order to run the side panels, or skins.

I'd take a Blazer or SWB side panel and remove the inner panels to run just the outer skins. Fasten them to tubing which will be narrowed towards the rear. Make the panels removable, too.

Any pics or other ideas about this?

What you're describing can certainly be done but finding pictures of such will be kinda hard.

Mine isn't exactly what you're describing but maybe it will help :dunno:

An older pic of mine (the rear skins are on there now)

i thought about doing that also Wes.but i ended up cutting the k5 fenders short to make them fit and making everyting un bolt.i will start gutting the fenders soon. now that they are where i want them.Pauly was laughing on the phone."you live in Michigan and you make room for rocks".:haha:

I'm thinking of using standard SWB bedside skins to use as I want to use 56" rear springs flipped backwards to gain 4" more of wheelbase. Plus, the overhang of the rear behind the rear fender lip to the tail light is shorter than a LWB and will look better. I should only have to trim the front part of the SWB skin to shorten it. It should look almost like a SWB truck when I'm done. Just have a 7" shorter wheelbase than a SWB but still 4" longer than a Blazer.

Oh yeah, I want to use only the outer skins. Don't want the inner metal like on yours because the idea here is to make them LIGHT and REMOVABLE.

Juanblzr has his very similar to what you're desribing. except he used fiberglass panels.

i know.mine is removable, just both sides come off at the same time.:D for now.not having a welder makes things take longer.i looked at the inner skin today and thought about what can go.but i DD it also AND if i cut off too much i seem to regret it later.:rolleyes:i might need it for a radiator support?my brother did get me the aluminum plate for the floor though.:bow:no more 80lb plates.lighter is good in mud also.
