i'm going to build some bumpers for my truck. i just bought some 1/4" diamond tread steel panels, rectangle tubing, and 1/4" 8"x6" angle iron. i don't have a tubing bender. i've got a mig and arc welder, torch, and grinders with cut off wheels. i want to get rid of my chrome bumpers and make something functional. later on would like to add a winch in the front. recovery points are a must have. does anyone have pics of simple bumper designs you have made? i would also like to build some sliders for the sides. pics of those would be fine also. thanks for the help.

I'm gonna have kerr build the gauntlet for me. I figure it would be easier just to have him do it cuz I don't have anything to cut or bend steel.

Oh and for rock sliders I'm goin to get pub my rocker panels(eaten with rust) and build some that tie in with the floor. Not sure if that makes sense

i used and angle grinder with a thin blade to cut slices 1/2 through the tubes and welded them then ground them smooth to bend these.

only tools were the angle grinder i mentioned, a pipe to bend it and a 110v welder

thanks for the pics guys. that is exactly what i was talking about. somehow when i search for bumpers, i can't find all that. gave me some good ideas. what should i do with my turn signals in the front. my truck is an 82 and have them in the bumper. also what about the rear tag light? don't want to get pulled over. anybody got ideas for that? thanks for the help.

If you're doing square tube, cut a hole for your existing turns, mount 'em up and rewire 'em. Easy. If you're doing round tube, you'd wanna do a flat piece, prolly in a corner where tubes meet to act as triangulation.

The plate light of course depends on where you mount the plate, but your local parts house should have a generic white marker light for <$5 for exactly this purpose.

Scott '4x4HIGH' did some really slick cutouts for lighting, IIRC -- his thread is in the Lounge for reasons entirely unclear to me (tech! in the Lounge! :haha: ) but you can search on his username.
