need quick help NOW!!!

ok i am replacing the dimmer switch on my 90 burb i removed the bolts that support the column and the hanes book says the column is supposed to drop down. but it wont i moved it around and pulled on it but it wont drop down and i cant get to the bolts. i have to have this ready by friday afternoon and i wont have much time left to work on it so please help me tell me every possible scenerio

There are 2 bolts in the engine conpartment right at the fire wall if you loosen those up then it should give you more room for you to work around your stearing colum. hope this helps.
