So my new motor wasted the clutch that was in there before already. It only had 4k miles and looked good when we did the swap... Was a 12 " Napa hd. I also had a leak from the transmission at the adapter so my buddy and I tackled the project yesterday.

I finished it up this morning and am having issues. I still have the trans tunnel out and can see the slave cylinder moving the fork a good way but it won't disengage the clutch enough to get it in gear. I have a hydro bellhousing from an 87 with clutch/hydraulics from the same year and the clutch was for the same truck.

I had the same problems when I first swapped out the turbo 350 it had when I bought it. I ended up going with a taller throwout bearing when I did it before but I'm not sure that was the right decision.

I think I need a master cylinder that will move more fluid. The one I have now is maxing out the throw. The slave cylinder could give more I'm pretty sure. What say you guys? I'm about ready to slam my head on the wall...

Are these the same hydraulics that were on the old motor? Was the system opened during the clutch swap?

What type of pressure plate - diaphragm or 3 finger?

There's no reason the 87 hydraulics and a diaphragm clutch wouldn't work.

Hydraulics stayed closed/together during the swap. Same hydraulics as before but like I said I had these problems before and put a taller throwout bearing in. It worked but I'm not sure it was right...

It's a diaphragm style centerforce, 12" for a 87 454 with their 1-1/8" throwout bearing that summit recommended with that clutch.

What about the flywheel? Anything special or stock type?

I've got a similar set up (using stock t/o bearing) except my clutch was from a local vendor with no problems.

Do you have the right fork? I believe they are interchangeable, but the hydraulic and mech setups use a different one. Would certainly affect throw.

Here is some info http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=200196&highlight=hydro+clutch

GM Part numbers for hydraulic parts here: http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153577&highlight=hydraulic+clutch+part+numbers

Wish I could find the part numbers from the mechanical setup, that would tell exactly what was different. Think there is still some question about the pressure plate itself.

Any chance the height of the mounting surface is different sbc to bbc?

I've got to ask...

Is there a chance the system isn't completely bled?

I bled it no less than 50 times the last time it was apart. There aren't any leaks and the pedal doesn't fade, just doesn't reach quite far enough...

Keep the ideas coming. Not going to offend me asking about something simple. I've screwed up before!

Do you happen to have an adjustable clutch master cylinder pushrod? I don't recall if the one in my truck now is adjustable, but the previous one was. Threaded rod/jam nut near where it connects to the pedal.

Yeah, I believe I made it to be adjustable. I'll see if it's releasing all the way. I know for sure it's bottoming out.

I think Kert has the same setup, give him a PM...he had to do some pushrod work on his at BB10 and seems like he had some line issues as well?

I'll send him something tonight Dave. It's frustrating because my pedal is actually a bit lighter with the new clutch and it's very smooth, just not quite enough...

I have had to mess with pushrod length a couple of times in non stock applications. Both in Toyotas. One I found the pushrod and just pretty much worn down, grabbed a new one and it was nearly a 1/4" longer.

So I would look at that

Right on, thanks Eric. I'll check it in the morning and see what it's doing.
