How do you get the tailgate spriNG off?? Im at school and i need to figure out how to do it fast so i can get my body lift on

I need to get it out from under my bumper b/c my rear bumper is still on.

I found the 2 bolts that connect it to the frame but that is all i have taken off.
Oh and i cant get the bolts out the sprnig is pinching them and is stuck in the sleve,

Thanks

John

can i do without a tailgate spring??

it dosent look THAT nessicary

The tailgate is heavy with or without them but I would keep them if you can. I guess it all depends on how much body lift you're using and will they still reach afterwards.

To get past them not you could unbolt the retainers that hold them to the bottom of the tailgate but BE CAREFUL! They will have pressure on them when you take them apart. I have no idea how hard it would be to reinstall them later so take that into consideration as well.

I just took my other tailgate off for a friend to use . It was easy to get the bolt with the sleeve off , just put something between frame and spring , pry up , remove bolt , let down . Then I just zipped off the hinge bolts under the tailpan and removed the whole damn thing with the springs intact.

Oh , and this is with the bumper off , just some bolts , its easiest that way :k5: :k5:

When I did the lift (1") I kept the springs, it was cool, almost zero tailgate weight

When I added the tube bumper we got rid of the tailgate spring (with torch). Man that foker is heavy. Be REAL careful the first time you lower it without the spring.

Take the window out , it gets lighter . In my case half the window was rattlin' around in the door , the other half was on the garage floor :D

I cut mine off when I took the blazer off. It's somewhere in the dirt now...
if I dont have a body lift...should I get a new one?

thanks guys i ended up torching it.

its not that heavy but im sure i could rig something up when im done.

stve- go with the body lift. mine is fing huge now.

now i have to get it in neutral somehow with the shifter detatched so that i can roll it backward to get it to lign up with the body. its pissing me off cuz its only like 1/2in to far

i think im going to weld the attachment on it first, go into neutral androll that bitch up.

thanks for the help again
