I've got a number of possibilities for my truck this year and recently I found a 4l80e , for a decent price, but it has a built in drum brake on the back. it's out a mid-90's box truck. if I do buy it I'll be going with a manual valvebody.

anyone know if there were different size drums that were available? is the drum something that can just be removed without a problem? or if I keep it on will it remain somewhat reliable. I try to avoid the really deep mud. will there be a problem to run a single u-joint(no shaft) to mate the 4l80e up to the divorced 205, if so what?

regardless of the above...
I'm going to do a caddy disc swap on the 14b.

That 4L80E is the same as a 4wd version. Unbolt the parking brake unit and bolt on a t-case.

I'm not sure on the single u-joint idea.... any factory divorced case I've seen used at least a ~12" long driveshaft.

u2slow, that's good to know... I'm still thinking on buying it,though.
so many options so little time/money. :doah:
