OK, guys I don't have time to search for this info or I would. I came into work this morning and have a puddle of gas under my truck. So I need some info on fuel cells as I don't want to put another stock gas tank in it because of the location.

I was looking at some a few weeks ago because this was my plan originally. I have a TBI setup right now what do I need to run for a pump and small stuff like that that would come up that I would need?

Also do I need a cell with baffles? Are they even made that way? Do I want plastic? I don't know much about them at all so any help offered would be great.

Thanks,
Shawn

why not go with a racing fuel cell with the foam inside to help baffling and slosh and then build a sheet metal cover to protect it from underneath? You could do something trick with an access cover from above to get to it. Any electric fuel pump is going to work for you inline from the tank.....just make sure you get a fuel pressure regulator to supply the correct pressure which I'm thinking is around 13psi, but don't quote me on that! :D

That helps a ton, I didn't know they had foam inside I will look into that. It's gonna go on top of my flatbed behind the cab. And I was looking into an adjustable regulator. I have read these TBI's are happy around 13 psi for best performance.

I went back through my notes just now and read 13psi!! :D

The Fuel Cell foam can be purchased in blocks and cut to fit any tank as well.....but the foam inside will take some of your volume away!

Foam breaks down and clogs the fuel filter.

I have never done a fuel cell on a TBI motor but I would guess you would need an external pump with the appropriate pressures

Other than that on a daily driver I would not do a plastic, do you have inspections. Some states that do will not allow fuel cells.

The foam they make for racing bladders do not break down and clog things!! I ran the same fuel cell running Sunoco 114 for 5 years and never had any problems......

We took it out of the circle track car after trying several different types of foam, running 91 octane. Actually we took it out on the off season and put new in at the beginning of every season. We were not running a bladder just foam

Lots of guys in the off road world have had problems with foam.

Just what I have seen, not trying to call bull on yours or not, I have heard of guys not having problems but everyone I know that has run foam in an off road truck has had issues with it, granted thats only 4 guys.

was this recent? I'm pretty sure most of the stuff they're selling now says it won't break down. We did take ours out after each season and let it dry, so it wasn't a daily driver. You may be correct though because the regular fuel has additives that will eat stuff pretty good:doah:

The off road guys are recent but unfortunately I have been out of racing for several years now. All the off road guys were running regular pump gas

I have heard the street fuel thing before vs race gas before as being one of the reasons for it.

Thanks for the replies!!

Putting a tank in from a blazer would require me to get a new tank also, as the one I have is for a carbed set up go figure :doah:

I do not have inspections here at all. No emissions or safety... Although if a police officer sees something suspicious they will call you on it. That's another reason for not using a Blazer tank is I was stopped once because the one in my Blazer was exposed.

(had 9" of lift with pizza cutters on it just going down the road a ways to get some welding done, so yea you could see the tank but I wouldn't say exposed):angry1:

This is what i have come up with.

Cell: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RCI-2160D/
On the cell itself I am thinking this would work. I could be wrong but you just use one outlet to the pump and the other as the return correct?

Pump: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G3136-2/
This one says that it was designed for carb only. Now being as the pressure rating is 14 psi and comes with a regulator I could dial it in so that it is correct right? Or is there really something special for carb that i am not thinking of?

I'm thinking it says it's designed for a carb because GM's 13psi fuel pressure for TBI is low compared to some Fuel Injection systems! I think that setup will work just fine.....

what a stupid d!ck he was. thats the way factory blazers/burbans/bronco's/ram chargers have been for years. even vans have tank mounted that way.

i have scored a few 40 gal tanks from tbi chevy vans dirt cheep from scrap vans. another idea for you or others.
