hi im new here and just wanted to say whats up and see if anyone could help me out,

i have a 73 jimmy with a 95 tahoe 350 short block it has edelbrock heads and intake, brand new holley carb 600 vac seconds, long tubes, a china hei dist, new plugs and wires, stock cam

the current problem is that the truck will backfire though the carb if i give it some gas, once warmed up it will idle allright
but still will backfire, i have played with the timing advanced, retarded and stock *, and adjusted the rockers twice, tried 2 different carbs, the distributor is new like 200 miles.

any help appreciated,

usally backfiring through the carb is the dizzy 180* out

i've never managed to get a sbc to even run with the dizzy 180 degrees out...backfire yes, but not run. Never mind well enough that I could attempt to tune it.

Double check you got the firing order right, it's very easy to get #5 and #7 crossed.

okay well i feel dumb, i just decided to advance the timing as much as the dist would turn and it ran great, i think i was a tooth off, runs good now,

but in other news i was driving it and the trans decides to take a dump so now its time for a tranny swap! but i have a parts suburban that has a good tranny!

thanks for the help!

okay so i need help with my steering im going to do the tranny swap in the next few weeks,

so my steering feels really f-cked right now after my last trip to the dunes, i was beating on it pretty good,

it has high steer with heim joints, and i cant find slack in any of the joints, and not much in the box to matter,

the symptoms are the steering is loose and it feels like it will fall side to side if i turn alittle like the caster is messed up.

please any help appreciated

I think I see your problem. As they say its not falling that hurts its the sudden stop at the bottom.

no lol its a few seconds early on take off, the rear wheels didnt get too high on this one,

and i just found a deal on a nv4500 and t case and shafts for 500 and he possibly has a d60 for cheap too,!

Oh damn lol, well i would just tell everyone its a wheelie on the sand in a K5 and be like what now!!! haha.

i guess that works! i broke down after this jump, the cab flexed and hit the dist cap and destroyed the rotor!

did you check the chassis by the box?

ya i checked it, no cracks anywhere, i fixed and plated the box and around it, so nothing there,

could something in the box make it freak out like this, like porting or somthing?

and i also get alot of bump steer:confused:
