Need some help

I am looking for a good truck for off roading through snow, and mud. I believe that a k5 would be good but im not sure. I am a bit of a beginner to both driving(recently turned 16) and mechanics, although my dad is a professional mechanic so he can help. So is there any particular model you suggest? And are there any specific stock parts I should look for to be in good condition? Obviously I will change parts, based on suggesions and advice, but is there anything that usually stays on a off-roading truck that i should make sure is in good condition? I only have about 4 thousand at the moment to spend on both the truck and parts, so obviously I cant buy myself a H2 Thanks in advance for any help.
