Hey guys, my Pops just traded his motorcycle for this 88 suburban. Has a 4" lift and 35s. he has bad back problems (the reason y he traded the bike) and been using a walker lately. The problem is getting in the truck, so he cant exactly "hop" right in. he likes the lift and tires cuz he wants to take it to the lake and haul the pontoon with it. I thought about the side steps. But don't think they will get down low enough for him to get in. And i dont think he wants to carry a step ladder around with him also. Lol. I guess if all else fails, I will have to put the stock suspension back on and get smaller tires, but hopefully not. I told him that I'd ask u guys and see what ideas you all had. Thanks

Electrically operated step.

design it and fab it up using a linear actuator.

There should be some manufacturer of them though. I have seen them but I cannot remember where.

That's a good idea. I'll google that. I was thinking of something like that but using his "hover round" lift that attaches to the trailer hitch receiver. But it's too bulky.

They make them, not sure where I have seen them though. Some motor homes have them and might be adaptable.

Saw a step many years ago, the folded up on the outside of the door. Flush. When you opened the door, it pushed the step down, when you closed the door, the bottom of the door hit a tab that folded it and held it up against the outside of the door.
Nothing below the body sill.

That one may have been custom, I don't know.

I found AMP research that does the electric running boards that come down when u open the door. That may work if I could modify it to come down lower, or if I was able to add a second running board under it to add that extra step? That may work

I googled electric truck steps, and those things are everywhere.

This is just one of lots of Youtube videos by different makers...

seriously a 5 gallon bucket with a rope. It isn't high buck but hopefully his back pain will go away and he can just get in like normal.

Itd be pretty cool to see a clean install of those steps. :waytogo:

Install some lift blocks on his shoes...:pimp:

I'm interested to see how the steps turn out if you go that route...

Oh the things I have seen when I didn't have a camera......
Bout two years ago, four of us were turkey hunting. Along about 8, we went into town for breakfast.
While sitting at a table in this little cafe, three people walked in.
Looked like a family.
The father was about 5'11, and weighed about 380. The mother was shorter and heavier.
BIG woman.
The son, was about 12, I swear if he took his shirt off, you could have counted his ribs.
Looked healthy, but skinny. Real skinny.
I figure not much food got past his parents.
Hope he had his own bed at home.

We got served about the same time, but they finished a couple of minutes before us. But, we walked faster.

As we were waiting for our driver to unlock the doors, we found ourselves looking across the parking lot at that family.

Truck was stock height, but it was obvious that the lady was going to have a problem.
Not to worry, her husband gallantly reached into the bed, pulled out a marine type battery with two rope handles.
Set it under the door, and his wife daintily stepped on it and into the cab.

He put it back in the bed, climbed into the driver side and drove away............
