Hello,

last year i bougt some ramsey 12V electric worm gear winches on ebay for my trucks. They are 4 different untis.
I am interested in getting some informations for this units.
Since when are these ramsey´s electric worm gear winches available ? sixties? seventies?
What´s the difference between these units? The only difference i could see are the drumm diameter and width. Does ramsey use different materials as for quality between the modells?
In what case do i need which winch except for towing capacity?
For example DC200 vs RE8000. At the first view the specifications are the same. What is the difference?

I could read on the tags on my winches

1.winch RE 6000 8000lbs:confused:
( Couldn´t find any informations on this in the net. The overall dimensions are even smaler than a normal re8000 winch. Seems to be an old model)

2. DCY200R 8000lbs

3. RE12000 12000lbs

4. GUS 2000 4500lbs ( is is a german modell name, same overall dimensions as the RE12000)

In germany you coud get a DC series RE or GUS series winch at the importer. I gave the german ramsey imprter a call about that but he coudn´t help me.

I love the ramsey worm gear units. They are slow but powerfull in towing. That´s what i am locking for !

The DC series are from their "industrial" series; as I remember they are/were available with either electric or hydraulic drive.

I seem to recall the DC series having a shorter spool, i.e. they can't handle as long a winch line. I think these are made for tow trucks more than off-road recovery, so the shorter line wouldn't be a problem.

I was fortunate in that my Ramsey (model 2000) came with its original manual, so I have a parts diagram and such. Mine dates from ca. 1980, if I remember correctly.

You can look at the manual on

http://brochures.slosh.com/index.shtml?blazer

Ramsey also has a pretty good online store for parts and such

http://www.ramseystore.com/shop/search.shtml

and the main page does have manuals for newer winches; looking at similar models may give you a better idea of what you have.

http://www.ramsey.com/automotive/manuals.html

though you can get the Industrial manuals there too =))
