I am kind of at a cross road right now and need to make a decision, but really dont know which way I want to go. This last trip out, I sheared the upper passenger side shackle bolt and cracked the frame at the steering box. I have sheared that bolt probably 4 times now and none of the times was it under a ridiculous load. Being my DD I still baby it a bit but I do give it some hell from time to time. The actual hanger is crooked (the frame is tweaked, or it looks that way to me) so there is a lot more weight resting on the outside and shackle and thats where it shears everytime. This last time out, I wasnt able to go to hard because my steering just wouldnt let me turn but I some how managed to crack the frame. I have the bolt in brace too. I didnt know it until today when I was getting some nasty DW going down the road.
The crack isnt to bad and I could fix it easy enough. I have everything for ram assist, just need to do it. I think that would take enough load off the frame that it would be fine after repairs. As far as the hanger goes, we have been talking about fabbing up a bigger one and using a summit bushing so I can use a 9/16's bolts, but I have my doubts about the frame.
I am going to buy a truck this summer and retire the blazer from DD duties, so I am ready to spend some time going through it, but this will also mean almost no money to play with. So I am either considering fixing as stated above, doing that plus boxing in the whole frame, buying another blown up blazer and using its frame, or maybe even(I day say it) swapping my whole drivetrain and motor in to a yj. What do yall think?
I have always had problems with that one hanger, so I am kind of thinking maybe it was in a wreck before I got it.Am I unlucky or am I just asking to much from the C-channel?
thanks,
Joe
