I'm doing my first all over paint job, and I'm close to spraying color. I've got a few questions on spraying jambs, interior, and the backsides of doors & fenders.

Fenders, doors, and hood are removed. I'd like to paint the backside of all panels, the firewall, jambs and interior before I put it back together and shoot the exterior.

Do I need to mask the front of the panels and the rest of the Blazer when spraying the backsides and interior to prevent over-spray, or will it blend ok when I come back and shoot the outside? Also, how do I spray the entire interior (bed and all) without getting in and stepping on the paint while it's still tacky? I don't see how I can reach it all without getting inside?

When you spray the back sides and the jambs, dont worry about taping anything off. You will need to sand the exterior 1 final time before you spray and it will blend perfectly.

As for spraying the interior, start at the dash and work your way back. Spray the dash, a pillars and roof first. Then spray the front floor, if you are going to, then spray the bedsides and finally the bed floor working from front to back.

That's my plan, but I'm shooting base / clear, and I'm co concerned that getting in the bed each time for multiple coats will make a mess of the paint in the bed.

paint the floor prior, than mask it off and put moving blankets on it..

Do we have a DIY on here somewhere for painting a vehicle? Or cliffs for those of us that can't pour through 48+ pages (I know it's good stuff, just saying). A DIY sticky would be awesome!

sorry, couldn't resist... :haha:

not really... depends on what ya wanna know, your particular situation, quality level, etc.....

lot to it, from different prep grits, chemicals, prepping and masking, painting techniques and order, yada, etc... it's not replacing a carb or something...

Touché!

I was just thinking, a DIY sticky with different threads for different techniques, different finishes, qualities etc just as you mentioned above.

Btw, what's that a schematic for in the background?

I've read through several threads here, also spent time on autobody101.com and hotrodders forum; even bought one of Kevin Tetz DVDs.

All have been helpful, but most everything I see just talks about exterior painting - its a lot more involved when you're removing panels and doing interior. Like Ryoken said, I think there's only so much that can be covered in a diy thread - there's so many different situations and levels of paint jobs.

I had actually thought about doing a web site for it... similar to my "how to" vert skating site I had done.... but bodywork is more like "work" for me, than a passion, like skating... :doah: :haha:

feel free to pm me any time tho... I can walk ya thru anything from sanding to masking to spraying...
