I feel kinda stupid....haha

It's a 383 sbc, 625 demon carb, running 18degrees advance, Cam is 495/503 lift, 218/224/110 angle. Right now I'm running a 71 jet.

I have a flat spot that I cannot get rid of, it acts like it's running too rich. When I shift it hesitates and bogs, I need to gingerly pump the gas to get it clear and move.

I am kind of lost as what to do here, I have retarted the timing some, didnt help. As well as leaned out, and riched the idle mixture screws, dejetted the carb from a 74 to at 71. Flat spot is still there, and the only way I can get it to idle below 8-900 RPM is to retard the timing. I have turned the idle screw as low as possible.

Suggestions? What size jets are people running with 383??

If NONE of that made any sense, speak up and I'll try to word it better.:o

Also: On the timing set, I set it at Zero degrees. Should I have set it at 2 advanced? or 2 Retarted?

I also forgot to add:

64CC aluminum heads, 202 160 valves
9.6 approx Compression Ratio
Full MSD ignition

what is your fuel pressure?

what is your fuel pressure?

Not sure, it's a factory replacement mechanical pump with a return line.

In doing research, I've since learned my floats are too high, they're in the middle of the sight classes, versus on the bottom where they should be.

It now makes sense why it's always ran rich. Ha
