I just acquired an M8000 for my truck and i want to mount it between the frame rails back as far as i can. I have no idea how i should mount it. i was going to burn in a piece of 1/4 inch plate but that is too permanent.
So anyone that has theirs mounted between the rails, i would love some pics.

dont recall who or were but i have seen a 8274 almost front flush with a grill on a 73-87 truck.

lots of work . and even rad mods or moving of it if i recall.

but kirt @ diy4x has built nice mount kits for them i have seen.

Well its going behind my bumper. So i want it far back in there.

I held it up in there and it fits fine. i have about three inches of extra space to play with. Exactly 3 inches.. somehow.

And im tired of paying Kert! ive dropped about 800 with him in the last month. Custom doors, a gaurdsman, and a cover...

I can do it myself, im just looking for ideas

:haha:

dont ask how much i have givin to ruffstuff/diy4x/offroaddesign in the last few years :doah:

i see were your coming from tho. good luck.

if i recall its called a a-bomb if you wana search for pics. and i think a few of the alaska guys have them.

mount

I don't have any finished pictures on hand but I can get some tomorrow, this is during the fab. The only issue I had was I would probably flip the angle iron over and mount it in front of the grill, so it sits higher. The winch doesn't fit between the frame rails but it is about as close as I could get it without cutting the front clip

hope you plan on bracing that setup in a y pattern to the rails from the new winch mount . or the 3 bolts will rip right off the frame.

Yes the whole thing has been braced this was just the first mock up before the front clip and motor were in the truck. It is not even welded together in the frist 2 pics.

Im going to do that. But inside the rails! That makes it easy enough to pull back out also.

Here's how I did mine:

Nice stuff, I'd like to see some more pictures too. Fred M1010's setup looks like something I'd like on my Sub; nice & out of the way, with the stock bumper still in front of it. Ryoken, it looks like your setup would be similar too with the winch that far back. That is some super clean work there!

eventually ill be putting one behind my front double tube bumper... i got one out back... on a 3/8" C channel... it is thick and sturdy :thumb:

not sure bout the front yet but i dont have the hydraulic winch to worry yet...

but nice setups here...

I have an 8274 mounted in one of Kert's bumper centers with it all recessed as far back as possible without cutting the core support. There are pics in my build thread but I can't access Photobucket at work to post them right now.

if my old memory serves me right.. didnt someone make a kit to fit behind a OEM 70's-80's bumper? i know they are hard to find.... but try and find the specs...

I ended up welding some 3/8 angle iron with a 1/4 inch plate between the frame rails. Works well so far.

Ramsey did for the 73-80, but for a weird length-wise mounting.

I have paperwork with some dimensions for both the winch and the mounting kit at http://brochures.slosh.com/ -> Miscellany (under "Magazines etc" at the bottom) and then "Ramsey Hidden Winch")
