Ok, I'll start by saying I'm not a mechanic.

Now here is the sticky situation I've found myself & need some advice on. I've got a '96 Chevy 2500 Custom Deluxe 4x4 350 v8 w/MANUAL tranny. This WAS my weekend truck & thus was not driven much. Rats or some varmit chewed some wires into & the truck would not idle down. No problem, I thought I'd just drive it into town & have the wires patch & be on my way. HERE IS WHERE THE TROUBLE BEGAN (over a year ago now). As I was driving the truck to the shop evidently one of the chasis wires broke loose & the front drive shaft grab'd ahold & jerked wires loose from everywhere.....& I have been unable to find a chasis harness for this fine truck. The truck is in good shape & I hate to part it out but I can't seem to find anyone that can get it up & going.

WHAT SHOULD I DO ? I can find Automatic harnesses all day long in salvage yards but no 4x4 manual ones.....:(:mad:

How different is the manual harness? I woudl think it woudl have less wires than the auto one. In that case, can't you modify an auto one?

Get your self a wiring diagram of your truck and compare your harness to it(or whats left of it) then grab an auto harness from a yard and cut splice whatever wires are necessary or not necessary.

One of the problems that I've found is that the wires going to the manual tranny were pulled out of the connectors. I can't really splice those because of that. And I don't know where to begin on finding any diagrams...again I'm no mechanic.

If you don't have much wiring experience.......this may be too big of a job to do. But, if you are motivated...and willing to spend the time....

You will have to get a new plug that goes into the trans, from teh dealer or otherwise. And splice that inot the new harness. Is it really all damanged bad enough you don't want to try and trace wires and repair it?

Wiring diagrams can be found in any conventional repair manual for your truck. They used be be available online, but im not sure where they are anymore

go to your local dealer and order up a new wiring connector pigtails for all the connectors you need. And the wiring diagram will tell you what wires go where. Even check out LMC Truck in their electrical connector section, they sell pig tails too probably cheaper than the dealership.
