TSL SSR
Baja Claw Radial

tire size is a personal thing, but with the overdrive, and 3.73 axles running that 6.2, youll want..... IMHO a 32 or 33in tire. both will give you slightly lower than what i have heard is the optimum rpm of 1800 rpm for that NA 6.2 when cruising at 65mph on the highway.

in regard to tire size, i would go with 33x10.50 on a 15in rim. But i personally like more tire than rim on my rigs. its a personal preference deal really. or if you plan on doing rocks, less rim will allow more air down. I am running 33x12.50x15 tires and wheels and they look pretty good on a stock lift, and work great on and off road. i only suggest the narrower tire for less float, to cut though snow, rain, and mud, although probly not too good on sand. Also the narrower tire should weigh less, and have less rolling resistance which should help (theoretically if not enough to show at the pump) with gas mileage.

as for the type of tire, I am running goodyear wrangler MT/R's and love them. big angry lugs that look bad ass, work great, and actually are rather quiet and have a good ride on the highway. Im hoping to get them again when i upgrade tires and rims but i dont think they make them in a 16.5in size. Another great tire that is also affordable is the BFGoodrich A/T KO, i ran them on my jeep wrangler and they were an awesome road tire, although i never had a chance to really try them offroad. they did great in the snow though... in 4 wheel drive anyway. worked great in 2wd too right up until i flipped it in a snow storm :) In fact i may also be using these tires if i upgrade to the H1 16.5in rims, as i know they have a 35in tire with the right ID. and one of the other guys i know that is a huge blazer head conciders them the best all around truck tire there is. on my jeep i bought the tires used, ran them for over a year, driving up to vermont for school and back several times, as well as tooling around and going "exploring" in vermont, and had no inclination to replace them any time soon.

with it being a daily driver, i have to say the goodyear MT/R is the only big lug design id recomend. most others are noisy as hell and will be annoying.

I am pretty much in the same relm for tire choices... except I don't have to ask my girlfriend for permission!

My pickup is similar to yours in that it will be my DD and it is a diesel. I want good traction in the same situation you do. I am really excited to try out the Maxxis Bighorns in a 255/85-16. About 33.5x10. 8 ply with sipping in the fairly aggressive tread.

BFG muds are available in the same size. Google the size and you will find a large following for these relatively uncommon tires.

I put maxxis bighorns 33 12.50 15 on my bronco and love them to death they work great in all conditions as listed and wear nice also and are quieter than the bfg i had. Check them out and they are a little cheaper too. i paid 840 out the door i think mounted

I would get 32 or 33s in a 10.5 a little less rolling mass to make it a bit easier on ur 700R4. Tire wise for a DD Id probably go with Buckshot Mudders or BFG MTs

Funny Bakerj1, The reason I have to ask the g-friend for money is because we own a house, and have a daughter together, truck payment, and plus I've been out of work since Aug 25 2007 with surgery to fix left hand and wrist because of work injury. To top it off I have RSD/ CRPS forom the injury/Surgery, basicly I've been out of work for a 1 1/4 yr now! So now she hold the check book.

Back to the tires
I don't see a problem with getting power to the ground with the eaton posi pro, But traction is a hole another ball game and. With the weight of the 6.2 and the short rpm range it would make spinning the tires for a prolonged period. I have 33x12.50x15 AT on it now and the suck in the snow, and wet pavement. I put my K-5 in the median twice on the e-way going to work and Plus it slides all over wet pavement.

I will look into Bighorns

I kind of like the 34X10.50X16 LTB and at $140.00 ea ( $560.00 Shipped)(8Ply) but I have heard that they will flat spot if you leave the truck sitting for a prolonged time and that they are like a 50,000 mile tire!
or
And the Maxxis BuckShot Radial Mudder 32X11.50X15 ( $120.00ea)($480.00 plus shipping)
or
TSl Radials 33X10.50X16 or TSL/SSR 32X11.50X16
I don't under stand the difference between Radial and Bias
or
Baja Claw Radial 33X12.50X16

Big range of tires and I still don't know what best yet. Thank you for all your input!

long story short, radial tires are a bit softer, (note the "bulge" even when fully aired up) but still give better gas mileage. according to wiki anyway ;)

Go with Interco's Trxus m/t, 33X10.50. I had the 35X12.50 on my truck for awhile and I loved them. Very good snow tire!

im looking into bfg mts 12.5s for my stock k5. I think the 12.5s mts look good, though im not sure of the advantages/disadvantages to tire width.

I've got the 33x10.5R15 BFG AT's, pretty pleased with them. Ran around last year hunting at about 20PSI, I'm sure I could have gone lower but no snow to try them in so no point.

I've posted before about my experiences, I think the key to these is airing them down as much as possible. Even at 20PSI the bulge of the tire is negligible, the sidewalls are pretty darn stiff. But that makes for good handling on the road, and they do seem to wear very well.

I might consider MT's, but that is going to hinder your on road performance over AT's, so you've really got to consider where you need traction the most. I don't drive mine much either way, but I think when these wear out (who knows, these are like 8 years old and nowhere near gone) I will try the MT. If I was actually driving this on the road more often, the AT's would stay, simply because of on-road traction and likelihood that they will last longer.

whats the differernce between running a 12.5 and 10.5 and is 12.5 possible on stock suspension? I like the 12.5 mts just for the look but i know its gonna hurt me a bit on road and sand

Anyone of the tires/sizes listed will work for you. Sounds like you have a good woman - hang on to her! They're harder to find than tires.

the 12.5's you will notice more of a "pull" when you hit a puddle too fast. the 10.5's have much better street manners. for a truck with a mild lift id say go with the 34x10.5's As far as driving down the road with agressive tread the biggest thing is the road noise.
I have 3 sets of tires for my blazer 35x12.5 15's Procomp At's (pretty much only good on dry roads) ride great use them in the summer for towing the boat and such.
36x12.5x15 Swamper SSR's (bias) love driving them in the winter make alil noise but work great in snow or rain. decent road manners (make alot of noise)
38.5x15x15 boggers Great for offroading and playin in the snow. Handle decent on the road VERY LOUD! They are soft and will wear out quickly on the road, Not recommended for much highway use.
Sorry so long but there is my $0.02.

to answer, yes, the 12.5 will fit the stock suspension. i dont flex my rig that much, i havent tried to score it on a ramp or run rocks or anything, but with regular driving, mud, and trails, i dont have any rubbing issues with the stock suspension and 33x12.50R15 tires. and they are big lug goodyear MT/R's.

LOVE them.

but i was also a big fan, as stated before, of the BFG TA KO 31x10.50R15 tires i had on my jeep wrangler before i totalled it.

those are the only LT tires im familiar with, and highly recomend both for trucks that see road and trail use. the BFG's were also driven in vermont through the winter.

If your going to wheel this in the mud, don't even waste your time with the BFG ATs. They will cake up with mud and then you are basically running slicks.
