Considering a new 2022+ Toyota 4Runner

Or possibly the new Bronco.

She and I both want a durable SUV that’s customizable.

Want something that will last as we have a child on the way.

You guys have any suggestions or thoughts on our picks?

I had a new bronco in the body shop getting some paint and the owner said definitely not to buy one. His main reason was its extremely underpowered.

Let me know what other makes and models I should be looking at as well.

Yeah I am leaning 4runner. Trying to talk her into a Tacoma but it’s not working lol

Go with the 4Runner. My wife has a 2018 TRD Off Road Premium and it is a sweet ride. Plenty of room in the back for the stroller. I put some Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires on it and it is very capable in stock form without adding a lift. It’s also a very smooth ride.

My daily is a 2009 Tacoma and it’s a bit cramped in the back with a car seat. Congrats on the baby by the way! Just had our first 3 months ago.

My daily has been my Tacoma it’s a 1st gen 2001 though but it’s currently in the shop because it finally blew a head gasket. Has around 400k miles. Love that truck. So I’m dailying my K5 for the time being.

I bought her a 93 4runner in great shape after she totaled her Chevy Cruz a couple years ago, but the auto transmission went out in it I’m going to be putting it up for sale. Has a brand new 3.blow engine in it.

So then I bought her a Pontiac G6 it’s a pile but it runs well. And gets her around fine. Want to get her and our future child into something larger and safer to drive.

Don’t want her breaking down out here in the 100° heat waiting for a tow truck or something.

Yeah, I’m thinking we’re going to stick with Toyota for sure. That Tacoma I have with the 3.4 was always reliable as hell. It’s all stock. When I get it back I’m going to rebuild the suspension as well.

Those 3.4L engines are notorious for blown head gaskets! I’d be amazed if it drove 400k on the originals.

My K5 is the first non-Toyota vehicle I’ve owned. 2001 and 2004 Camrys before my Tacoma. Both went well over 200k miles. I recently bought my K5 down in you neck of the woods.

You won’t regret a new 4Runner, especially with the 4.0 and the transmission it’s mated to. It’s too bad they’re no longer putting that combo in the third gen Tacomas. My buddy has one and it’s constantly searching for gear.

If I had it my way it’ would be manual trans. The 3.0 is the one that was notorious for blown head gaskets. It’s common for blown head gaskets on the 3.4 around the 400k mile mark the 3.4 is a great engine and makes really good power.

Toyota, all day.

Problems aside, in my area Broncos are still being marked up above retail (“adjusted market value”) so I’d wait until that quit before I’d get one.

Another vote for a 4Runner. Aftermarket, probably top 5 in terms of parts available, still has the 4.0, (not the shitty 3.5 in the taco), big enough for what you need, and parts will be available forever.

I have a 21 Tundra- my first Toyota. It will be hard to go back to anything else after this.
