I gave my '67 K30 to my son and we have a lot of bodywork to do and don't know where to start first. We need to replace door bottoms, cab supports, a little section of the floor right by the rockers, inside and outside rockers and cab corners.

Can anyone tell me the thing we need to do first and put it in some kind of order so we keep the gaps right?

I realize this is a "newbie" kind of question but I'd hate to do it wrong and something not fit right along the way. I actually feel a little stupid not being able to figure it out on my own but "you don't know what you don't know."

Is there a point where we need to fab up a brace system in the door opening to keep everything in place, and if so, when and how is best?

I did quite a bit of welding 30 years ago but I'm sure I can get back in the swing of things since it's MIG. I know to move around and cool the welds but just don't know what to do first, second, third and so on. This is a "dad and son" project I'm really looking forward to so I can spend time with my son.

Thanks for any advice you can give us.

There's a saying, peel the onion.
Just start removing layers of rust or damage. The only thing before that step is to brace the whole truck to keep the shape if you don't want to spend a long time restoring the shape from measurements.

Thanks for the response. I just didn't know if I should cut out the floor section first, weld it in then do the support and finally inner rockers then outer rockers to help keep in alignment. I plan to weld up a brace in the door opening first. Does that sound like a feasible way to do it?

To clarify:
I would brace the truck before any removal.
I would peel off layers until I got to the solid stuff, then replace in the reverse order.

imiceman44, That actually does make the most sense. We'll do'er! Thanks, greatly appreciated!
