i cannot pass go and the man collected $100. my 87' k5 (5.7 350) amazingly passed emissions but failed to pass visual w/gas vapors leaking and disconnected vacuum hoses (pretty much all of them thanks to the po). here in lies the problem with pics attached for clear description. i found and connected all hoses except for the hose(pic1) that was literally sitting on manifold ready to fall off. one hose(pic2) (judging from the puzzle piece ends) connects to the ball shaped air box(pic3). from there it goes to the one way air valve(pic1) and branches off to three more connections(unknown). pic4 shows a sensor to i dunno what. spent all day searching and researching(still) and could really use some professional help! hope this makes sense...thanks.

I'm not sure if they did it on the 87 tBI trucks, but my 86 had an emissions decal with a detailed map of the vacuum hose routings right on the radiator support... I'll try and look at my '91 before I leave work If you haven't found an answer yet. What do they mean by gas vapors leaking? Are they referring to the fuel tank, or in the engine bay?

evap test failure

all the hoses on the stickered diagram are now connected properly, however, the vacuum hose in pic1 cannot be found anywhere, haynes nor any forums.(if anyone knows where it goes, i will paypal the correct responder $$, j/k, but seriously) ended up just deleting it and took it to a different smog tester who was highly recommended(the first tester took my $80 and rode off on his camel). the new technician performed the second test for half the price and even helped me diagnose the failure of the evap test. turns out it passed evrything and failed the evap test for the 2nd time because of a leak coming from the sending unit of the fuel pump which was why the fuel system had no pressure(opening the fuel cap will expell audible pressure, should the be adequate pressure with no leaks). my next step is to replace the sending unit/fuel pump and filter while im at it. any suggestions as to which fuel pump brand to purchase..? thanks..

I have used rock auto or ebay to find a N.O.S. one. BTW which smog place did you go to the second time (the helpful one)

Missing location for #1 picture

My 87 GMC Jimmy has that hose you have in the picture,
5.7 350CID, SBC,TBI 700 R4,,4X4

The plastic Funnel shaped Piece with the hose's coming off it!
Runs along the firewall ,,>just left of the Brake booster and I beleave it conect's to the Cruise control servo on the engine,,
and to something else,,, maybe the A/C heater HVAC vacumn in cab> thru the firewall!
I will go look in the Morning! maybe with a picture!

The funnel shaped Conector is a "Vacumn Amplifier"
and Mine on 2 Ocassion's,,
has Fallen apart but popped back to geather!
If you find a parts truck grab one for a spare !

There is a Small hard PVC Line 3/16 th's Vacumn,,(Controls HVAC doors in Cab)
>>coming from the Left at Near A/C evap core housing on Firewall
>>>>out of a Body Gromet with sealant and wires!

>>It come's over above the distrbutor against the firewall and Plugs into the short Pieace of rubber then to the T-with the hard line going ,,
into the short rubber hose near a hose T,,,!

On the intake Manifold ,,>Behind the TBI there is a 90 degreee (Large L shaped)
>Vacumn port with 1/4-3/16ths id hose,,that routes arround Distributor up to firewall and hooks into a tee
that also hooks into the vacumn ball on passenger side firewall at fender!

The "left over T end",,, should have a Rubber line conecting to the top back of the Cruise control on pass side of intake!

You win the golden ticket! Right on. Thank you. As for the pics, use photobucket.com Super easy and free. I'd like to see what you have...
