Hey all, I cleaned up the hubs and the inner and outer races on one of them needs replacing. I have a 20 ton shop press. What else do I need and how do I remove them? Also can anyone suggest good bearings?

do the same to get em back in? Can I get the races from any parts store?

go to ebay and search nowparts seller. smokin deals on bearing/race/seal kits. almost 1/2 price of parts store. and best part timkin bearings and races.

I feel so ashamed . I have bought , traded , and begged just to get decent outers so I wouldn't have to mess with the races .

I thought so. They dot seeem to have them for the hubs:( Oh well Time to hit the stores:D

when installing the new races, throw them in the freezer for 30 mins before installing, it will shrink them a just a tiny bit and that makes them 10x easier to install

Just use a brass drift (3/8" face or bigger, and at least 8" long, - steel works too, but you need to be more careful with it) and a 3lb hammer. Beat the races out by hitting it across from prioir hit, using about 4 locations 90 degrees apart worked well for me. Also, when removing old races, just make sure you dont gouge the hub... deburring them can be a pain. Ask me how I know:o

They should have everything you need at Autozone, but ONLY buy the Timken brand bearings and races, none of that value-crap brand. D44's have a spindle difference between years, so unless you know for sure if its big bearing or small bearing, I would take the old bearings down there with you as the "parts guys" there dont know anything

you will need the following parts:
Outer Bearing
Outer Race
Inner Race
Inner Bearing
Wheel Seal

Outer's usually come as a matched set, but inners could be either a set or seperate. Should be about $35 per side

Looked at Now Parts on eBay and found this in the description for a 14 bolt kit:

Kit contains Timken outer bearings NTN(USA) inner bearings & National seals.

Looks like it's only half Timken bearings:confused::confused: Is that why the prices are low?

when installing your new races, you need to make sure you are careful to get all of the brass shavings out that came off your drift.

Save a lot of time, go to "napaonline".
You can make a drift to protect your new races. Use the old race that you pulled from the hub (or spindle). Cut the race (axially) with a cut-off wheel or disc. Now the new "tool" is a spring instead of a fixed "hoop". Drift the new race into place with the altered old race, by tapping around and around. The sound changes when the race finally seats, then just snap out the old race.:D
