Need to seal up rear diff cover....

You guys that cant get a rear end to seal with rightstuff are either the antichrist or you just didnt clean it good enough.

Make sure you are putting the permatex on the inside of the cover holes, and not just around the outside... Cause then the oil would leak out through the bolt holes. You just need a little bead of permatex, and make sure everything is totally clean when you put it on. You'd have to have a pretty messed up cover for permatex to not be able to seal it.

I claim the anti Christ. I clean both surfaces with a die grinder with the mesh style disk (the ones that don't eat metal but just take off the crud) and then I clean both surfaces and apply the right stuff generously to the cover. Then put on finger right for a few minutes then snug it down. Mine always leaks

I put Richards cover on with regular black rtv and it never leaked :haha:

Well maybe I am just old school,I always use a gasket, and a little rtv, I never ever have leaks, just do it right and you will be much happier!!

When I did the diff fluid change in my 06, I just cleaned it up really well with a scraper, and used some ultra blue with no gasket. I let it set up on the cover for about ten minutes before installing, and that's been fine for me so far.

Usually I use a gasket if it's something I care about, but I spaced it on this.

I mean using or not using a gasket doesnt really dictate that its right or wrong. Theres 100s of service manuals that state to just silicone the cover on for numerous vehicles.

Never use a gasket here. Just RTV and apply. Don't wait for it to skin over, just apply the silicone, spread like peanut butter, put the diff cover on and torque it down to the, "YEP, that's pretty damn tight, ft. lbs." and roll with it.

and make sure to clean the surfaces completely with brakekleen or laquer thinner or carb cleaner.
Agreed no need to let it skin over, smear it on and go with it.

There's gaskets for diff covers? :haha: I've never used a gasket. Always high temp permatex. Black and/or orange never had a leak.....from the diff cover that is. but as long as you clean it really good and let it sit 12-24 hours (depending on temp)before filling with oil it. It will seal and hold it. Getting it off takes some persuasion though.
