Putting a 76 K5 Dana 44 under my crawler project. The 1st gen Toyota Tundra wheels I was planning on using are hitting the steering arm. What backspacing do I need to run 17" wheels? Fabricator is pissed because he needs to be able to move my truck!!! Everything I read says 4" is max, but everyone is talking about 15" rims.

Just get some spacers real quick.

But I think you can get away with 5" . 4.5 for sure.

Measured last night. If I cut the factory tie rod mounts off, I can clear 4.75 backspacing. The tie rod mounts being there only allow 4" backspacing.

Must be some rather thick aluminum wheels to touch the arm. I've had 5" steel 17s on and they were close but fine.

They are 1st gen Tundra/Sequoia wheels. Its like 5.25 backspacing. The stock tie rod mounts are only 4" back from the WMS.

He found 2 wheels with 3.25 backspacing in his shop that are enabling him to move it if necessary.
