So my buddy gave me a brand new electric water pump for the engine I'm rebuilding. My question is. Othe than an electric fan. What else do I need to run that? Do I need to change pulleys are anything like that?
I'm trying to see if this free electric water pum. Is gonna cost me more in the end then a new mech pump with my old fan.

Thanks for help guys.

That's kinda what I'm wondering. Cuz I know you have to get spEcail pulleys to run them off crank. Or so I thought??...

Usually those electric pumps have far less reliablity than a belt driven one, and since they are at a constant flow rate for any rate of engine speed, they can over-cool at idle, and under-cool when under heavy load / towing. Same goes with the electric fans, they can do very well unless you are working the engine really hard, then they simply don't have the same flow capabilities as a mechanically driven fan.

The reason for the electric pumps on a drag car is two fold -- 1. They are much lighter in themselves, and safely eliminate the alternator, power steering pump etc and 2. They only need to run for less than 14 seconds on the strip at wide open, then do an excellent job of cooling the engine down after the pass on the strip, and also pre-cooling the engine before the pass.

I'd absolutely re-install a new mechanical pump on your K5
