Anyone ever buy/use NEIKO brand tools? Wrenches specifically. I was going to buy a second set of 1-5/16"-2"(possibly 2-1/2") wrenches, and I can not justify buying Snap On (I have up to 1-1/2" in Snap On). The SUNEX set I can get for $204, but this NEIKO set is considerably cheaper. Just wanted to know if anyone has used them, and thinks they are pure garbage or not. Once a wrench gets that big, it really doesn't need to be that great anyway.....

Curious who makes them. I’ve been getting the plus sized tools at the pawn. You have any near you?

Never heard of them till now. Looks like China with the rest of them. My big wrenches are Pittsburgh. They are kind of bulky/thick like a Craftsman wrench would be. Not smooth and skinny like a Snap On. Never broke one though.

Never heard of that brand.
Good to know. Will check them out.

SUNEX tools are actually decent.

Pawn shops? No. Hour plus drive for any such thing. I have to drive almost an hour away to get to a Walmart.......

Well I went ahead and ordered a set. I'll report back. For $170, what the heck. I like how they eliminated a lot of the skips. Just wish they would eliminate them all. Like why does no one sale a 1-3/16" wrench???? It is a very commonly used size in agriculture.

Yeah, my wrenches in my tool box are a mixture of various brands from 1-9/16" - 2-1/2". None of them are as nice as a Snap On, but I am also not using them nearly as often a 9/16" wrench, and generally something that big is kind of out in the open. I have never worried about breaking one, and am not sure I would care at the price I paid for them.

Yeah, for a cheaper brand, Sunex is fine. I just didn't know if there was enough difference between Sunex and Neiko, to justify spending a few extra dollars. I guess I will be the guinea pig.

I think 10 or 15 years ago there was a much bigger difference in the quality of off brand tools. I just look at the construction and feel of a wrench now, brand doesn't matter as much to me. I could never afford Snap On, although I have some second hand. I bought a lot of Craftsman back when they were better. Now I buy a lot of USA made stuff from estates and auctions when I see them. Its easier now to add a nice tool here and there because I already have a full set of the basics. I agree that when you get into the larger wrenches its hard to screw up a big hunk of metal. I will have to check out the Neiko, my large wrenches are mismatched but they get the job done.

For the fun of the topic, Cat wrenches are made by Snap On and half the price. My son ordered a set of off sets, they are identical in every way except they say Cat on them.

Every one says that, but I don’t have a local Caterpillar dealer, and I have never seen where to order them on line.

I also just ordered an OEX50B 1-9/16” wrench from my Snap On guy. It lists for $197.50. For one wrench. Makes the Neiko set look reasonable!

Why do so many wrench sets have annoying skips?

Martin

I have 1/4” to 1-1/2” with no skips in full polish Snap On, I just wanted the next size up to be Snap On. Call it silly, but it’s what I wanted.

Odd coincidence that I just ordered that Neiko set this morning and was slightly annoyed they skipped 1-9/16”. Not a very common size, but a size I have needed multiple times I’m the past. Then today working on a bulk oil setup at the old man’s place, and I needed a 1-9/16” wrench…..

So I ordered the Snap On, but I will keep the Tekton in the back of my head if I want a duplicate.

Martin.

not silly at all. I bought an eVolv (Sears cheaper Craftsman) set of wrenches one time in SAE when it was easier to buy some than return home to get some. bugged me so bad I didn't have a matching set in metric after a few months I went and bought a set. I bought set of Stanley SAE wrenches on clearance at Walmart. every once in a while I will hit eBay to see if I can find the matching metric set.

I have some Tekton sockets that are holding up fine.

More recently I've been trying to avoid China made so I look for Taiwan made. For example, Gearwrench is made in Taiwan by Apex Group.

They came in today, no time to use them, I have to head to the bar.

Here is the 1-5/16” compared to an S-K of the same size.

….and the 1-11/16” compared to a Snap On Induatrial.

A little smaller, but I don’t know that I hate that.

I have the Pittsburgh for the big sizes as well.
Never had a problem with them either.

Taiwan actually makes really good quality stuff.
I used to buy their socket sets before I came to the states, loved them.
