Hey Blazer team,
Can you please recommend nerf bars, side steps, or running boards to fit a 1973 K5 Blazer? I’m not finding nerf bars that seem to fit. I have the small step on now, but I’d like a long bar (curved ideally) with a step.

Your chances of finding modern up fitters making nerf bars for a 73 square. There are some such as Diy4x that make rock sliders. You could possibly find old use at a wrecking yard or may be e bay, Face Book market place has a whole section just for square bodies.

Keep in mind 73-75 K5’s have the extra rocker boxes to add strength back to the body. Considering that most nerf bars back in the day typically used a bracket that uses the middle two body mounts. The rocker boxes might be in the way if you actually find a set of steps that used the body mounts.

I don’t remember seeing any bars or steps available through the typical step companies selling them now.

I love my DIY4X sliders but they attach to the body mount supports so they would not fit a 73-75 Blazer.

Because the rocker box is in the way, is there any reason why I can’t use a bar that connects to the front body mount and weld it to the body on the back end?

I built mine out of 2X4 box tubing, 1/4 wall. I welded them to the frame, using (4) 2X2 square tubing. 14 years, and going strong! Only driven to the Mall though! LOL20210909_132248.jpg20210909_132305.jpg

Check "Off Road Designs " offroaddesign.com. I made my own side bars.

It's been a couple years now since I bought a set of stainless steel nerf bars with the steps (flat rubber section on top) for my '88 K5 and they mount on the body mounts BUT I got them from Rock Auto for about $160. They were, and still are, running sales to clear out old inventory. I'd at least look there to see what they have. And the ones I got were name brand high quality bars. You'd have to do some fabricating but I think you could make them work fairly easy if they still have them in stock.

It's been 15 years plus.....I couldn't source any suppliers with aftermarket steps etc for a square body blazer .

It was expensive but I sourced Stainless Steel pipe + mandrel bent 90degree radius....mount plates were simply as stock.

I have had an exhaust shop bend me some and then put flat plates on the end and mounted them to the frame! Just like a nerf bar! Also right now on my blazer I have rock sliders that work as steps that I got from Off Road Design ORD out of Rifle Colorado!

I just checked Rock Auto. They have the stainless ones for about $165. Black steel for about $135. Aries brand. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

ETA: Mine look great and have held up very well since I've had to leave it sit put these last couple winters.
