Neutral Safety Switch Help

OK, so I was wiring up my aux. reverse lights, and I am putting them on a three way toggle switch (constant on, constant off, reverse on). So I needed to get into my reverse light circuit, so I found the light green wire coming off the neutral safety switch. I don't like the quick splice things, so I cut the wire, and installed a butt connector on it. Then the plan was to wire in the power to the switch, and the other half of the light green wire. Ok, everyone following me? Problem is, I was trying to strip the wire and accidentially (sp?) tore the plug off the neutral safety switch. I reinstalled it but cannot get the reverse lights to work. I took a piece of wire and made a jumper on the plug, and then the reverse lights stay on in every gear. Anybody have any ideas? Did I screw the NSS up? I noticed there is 5 pins, if I counted right on the NSS and the plug has only two. Do I have to find the right combination? By the way its a 86 K5 with auto trans.

Thanks ahead of time for any help

Anyway, don't worry about it. I just realized by studying the wiring diagrams for the truck that the neutral safety switch is bypassed, and I have to replace the switch because it is bad.
