Any one know where it is on a 84 k5 automatic with a 700r4? i heard some may have a machenical lock out as well, any way to tell if there is a neutral saftey witch? im putting in a floor shifter to get rid of the colum shifter since the linkage keeps messing up. the new shifter has a neutral saftey switch and i need to get it hooked up haha thanks in advance

Should look like this...purple wires are the neutral safety wires, the others are the back up lamps..download (26).jpg

Hmm some reason it wont let me enlarge the photo, on the back of my column iv got a white half disk looking thing (similer to what i can tell in that picture) that had two probably around 8 guage wires running to it (blue and green) those i figured where for reverse lights now iv also have a 10 guage purple and yellow wire running together but arnt pluged in any where, would those be my neutral saftey wires? with the column shifter the truck wouldnt start in gear even though the only wired plugged into the thing on the column by the firewall are the reverse lights (i think) so does that mean it has a mechanical lock out?) ill get pictures up in a bit to clarify

this is what i have at the base of the column at the firewall the green and blue wires ran to the two tabs at the top center kinda hard to see them but they sit right under what looks like a bolt/screw with a washer in the fire wall in the picture

and just for kicks theres the shifter and the the column shifter/lever removed, wouldnt say it looks to bad for a first time hahah about the only shifter i could find that would work with the tranny and fit in the truck to make it usable

The purple and yellow wires are the neutral safety ones..
I jumped those two together on my truck so it starts in gear and park & neutral..I know it's "unsafe" but I have my reasons..

Fair enough haha ill hook em up then and see what she does

As a side note what do you guys think about painting the shifter handle blue to match the dash or black? gotta say i am really not a fan of chrome and have blacked out almost all the other chrome ok the truck haha
