Was 5 miles away to the shop where i was going to get the body lift off when rear driveshaft decided to break off luckily was not going very fast and heard it come off immediately pulled over, note to self when replacing U-joints just go ahead and replace them all i replaced one of them over the summer and the one that failed was the one I did not replace...

Depends on your budget, a drive shaft shop can fix it or build you a new one, or you can find a used one.

Here's a brand new one made by dorman, for an auto trans, and 205.
thank you i will take a look, just been looking a little since i got home and seen some around 600 dollars for a new one

You need 37's on that bad boy, hell get some 40's with your new drive shaft.

i get mine local, but I've heard good things about this place.

Most of the online web sites have instructions for measurements.

Tom woods sponsors Blaze Bash. Give them a look.
Some here might have a stock drive shaft stuck in the corner of their shop. Put in a wanted add in the classified section

You got lucky. That could have been a lot worse losing the front U joint like that. You could have pole vaulted your blazer. I bought a new driveshaft from Oliver's. Works good so far. My slip joint was pretty loose so I had to go new.

I have a Tom Woods. Its a nice piece. Around $500. I had the 2 piece in my crew cab rebuilt when I damaged a yoke by a driveshaft shop. Fixed the yoke, 3 new u-joints, carrier bearing, balance and paint, also about $500.

I have bought one shaft from Tom Woods. Great service and a nice piece.
Local shops have been good for regular stuff.

Stupid question. Could you have pulled the rear shaft out and drive home on the front? You don't want to go far, or fast on just the front, but.

Yes I could if I had some tools one me..

What set up do you have? I have an 87 K5 stock drive shaft if it will work.

Edit: Never mind. Just read you have a 77 K5 so probably not going to work.

That's what I did when I lost my rear driveline. Chirped the front tires going around corners until I got home. Best part was my 10 year old grandaughter was with me. I explained to her what went wrong and what I was doing and she says "Papa, what's a transfer case?" I had to hold back a tear...
