Sitting here thinking about the stupid things I've done with my truck, which will never happen again. So I thought I'd ask what you guys have done, but will never do again. (Yes, too much time on my hands!)

A few years ago, a friend asked me to help him pull a vehicle up his driveway, since the engine wasn't running. I get to his house and the vehicle turns out to be a PROVOST BUS!! No kidding, a full size Greyhound bus converted to a motorhome, and he wants it up his driveway and into his backyard. Not sure what angle (grade) the driveway was, but for sure steep, and 30' of steep!
I agree to try...so we hook up a chain, lock the hubs, select low range, and pull....I get almost to the top of the driveway, and POP goes something in the rear....but nothing seems to break, and finally after some wheel spinning and repeated pulls to gain momentum, we get the bus into the backyard. What popped, I haven't a clue...maybe the springs bending and shifting?? I wish the hell I had a video camera at the time !!

Enough of my stupid story...What have you guys done with your truck that you'll never do again.

I decided to put 1 tons under it, put it on 44s, and put a roll cage in it, without researching the proper order or way to do it. :( Big mistake. :D

Why? What were the results?

Lot's of stuff that had to be redone because something else I did got in the way, lots of parts sitting for extended amounts of time because I bought them before I had a good knowledge/gameplan of what to do first, and lots of money spent WAY before I really needed to spend it. :D For example, a 2 inch body lift would have saved me some real headaches with clearance, but I had already had the roll cage professionally built and connected to the frame. I bought 5 tires and beadlocks that sat in the garage for a couple of years because I wasn't ready for them, only to find out that one of the beadlocks wasn't fully welded from the factory and it leaks, but no one will warranty it because of it's age, even though it was never driven on. Rebuilt the engine and carb, only to let the engine sit for about a year due to lack of funds, resulting in another carb rebuild and fuel pump failure. Etc, etc, etc. :haha:

I'd say the rollcage before the 44's would be the proper way??

Unless you rolled it i don't see it :dunno:

My story. Never drive very far with a low tire. I was 17 or 18 and had a 77 Blazer. Had a slow leak so every morning it was about 1/4 of the way flat. i'd drive it to work and after i got off i'd air it up. It being halfway flat by now.

I forgot one morning and took off out the driveway. It had rained the night before. Got to the first corner about1/4 mile. couldn't have been going any faster than 40-45 :dunno: Made the corner then i felt it start sliding so i let off the gas and it went back almost straight then kept going. I guess it being heavy didn't help on skinny ass tires. Either way i overcorrected and with the low tire i slid into the ditch causing it to roll. I bet i was sideways for about 50 ft.

Flipped it on the top. My amp went flying off my speaker box about 100 ft. and the wheels i had in back got me in my shoulder and head. Not fun

either way my advice is always have your **** strapped or boltd down and keep the tires aired up :doah:

I should have done the roll cage last. I needed the extra clearance for the 44s, but since the cage was already in, I had to go with more suspension lift, otherwise the roll cage would be "lower" in the cab of the truck and I couldn't get in. :D Oh, and good advice on strapping stuff down, I once saw a buddy of mine get rear ended at a red light, and his speaker box flew through the back window of his S10 blazer and onto the hood of the car that hit him. :haha:

I will never use anything more than 6" springs I'll build drop hangers or cut the fenders to clear my tires

always check out parts when i get them even if there couldnt possibly be anything wrong with it

example, the ridge missing on a coolant neck of a mr. gasket neck, nothing to hold the hose on, went flying off on the highway, overheating everything and i wasnt able to catch it in time, went off the side of the road and flipped losing everything, bending the frame, saved the axles, seats, engine parts, couple interior things, and 2 tires...

Holy crap! My story sucks compared that that!

How did the overheating cause you to go off the road?

My friend fell asleep and went off the road resulting in his 4Runner smashed up like yours. When you see the smashed vehicle in person it really hits home!

I hope you weren't hurt....:doah:

the engine seized and the hydro boost brakes did nothing, my steering also locked up, i dont know why

i saw fluid spewing out between the fender and hood and looked down and the temp guage was already tapped out

only had time to hold on

still wish i was on a back road or somthing, not going 65+

just banged up my knee a little, luckily our trucks are so safe for big accidents, undoing my seatbelt and falling down to the passenger door and kicking the windsheild out w/ all the broken glass hurt more lol

i check alot of things on my burb everyday because of that

that's one serious crash bro...

Dumbest thing I've done so far is assembling (and consequently disassembling) my new engine multiple times trying to determine why the head gaskets weren't sealing...

I was using an inch/lbs torque wrench...DOH

Whole engine build has been kinda frustrating now that I think about it

My friend and I were getting ready to pull the Th350/203 out of my 77 K20. I was unbolting the front drive shaft, he was doing the rear. He got the straps off and couldn't get the shaft to come out of the yoke on the rear axle. I told him go get the pry bar, maybe it was just coroded in there. He gets back with the bar and proceeds to pry on the u-joint. Now we were doing this in my driveway, which is about 40' long and rises up about 4' from the road to my garage, so it's got a decent grade to it. He pry'd on the joint and it came out....the truck then ran us both over. Turns out I had forgotten to block the wheels. I guess the good/bad thing about 40" tires is that it gives you more cleance under the axles when you do get run over.

wow, well you know what they say "if your gonna be stupid you better be tough"
