Thinking about getting a Softopper for The Blazer...a lot...:doah: So I'd want a pickup tailgate obviously. That hard top comes off it's NEVER going back on.

The only pickup of our generation that I've had was Big Ugly and it had a plain tailgate. No trim or anything since it was a CUCV.

Found this on Craigslist today.

It's about 45 minute drive from me but the price is good and the ad does say it's not rusty.
What's under the trim?
How is the trim held on?
Any "CHEVROLET" stamping under the trim? I liked that on Big Ugly's tailgate.

I'm going to repaint The Blazer so this would get repainted whatever color and I'm probably not going to put trim back on it or anything. Like the simple, "low options" look Big Ugly's tailgate had.

Used up a 1/4 tank of gas to drive to this guy's place...he's not even there yet...only to find out...it's rusty all the way across the bottom of the tailgate. Cracked metal, through bubbling rust, just ugly.

Seemed surprised I didn't want it.

****ing retard.

Yea I hate it when ppl try to sell stuff and not give you all the info on it, it's not like you would never see it when you go to buy it like you just did. He should pay for the trip you just made. I try to be all honest when I sell anything, I would hate for anything to come back to me.

Yeah. Had this happen twice now in the last few weeks. Drive 45 min to an hour out into the boonies and it turns out to be junk.

I think from now on if they can't answer my questions it isn't worth my time to go and look.

His ad did say it has some surface rust along the bottom edge. Everyones idea of "some" or "little" is usually ALOT different than what you consider to be the same so it is ALWAYS a good idea to have them take close up pics of any areas of concern.

Yup, a couple of bad experiences with Hill-Jacks will learn ya good :doah::mad:

Was there a kid playing banjo on the front porch? You may have gotten lucky...

I'll never forget the day I bought my K5... took the PO at his word about the rust in the floorboard... Learned a lot from that experience, and gained the ability to grind and weld in the process. Trade off I guess.

I look at stuff all the time the seller claims has surface rust, only to find it's rusted out. A lot of people don't know that surface is rust that forms "on" the surface (usually due to failed paint),not rust that started on the backside, ate through the metal, and now is visible on the "surface"...DOH!!! I'm sure it's that, most of the time, and the rest are just people who believe their own lies enough to think everyone else does. Cuz,why would anyone think you'd want something that isn't what you specified you don't want? "Oh well,I didn't want to waste my money on a rusted part but since I already wasted my time and gas money to look I think I want it." Yeah right?:dunno:

Guy was only asking $30. If I just wanted a tail gate to slap on there...I'd have offered him $10.

However The Blazer is nice enough and NEEDS a paint job badly enough that I'd have still needed a more solid tailgate. I mean, I can get a LMC aftermarket tailgate that is 100% rust free for a few hundred. Why spend money fixing an old rusty original?
I said as much to him and he just sorta said okay and walked away.
