new 14 bolt vs old

what's the diff. between the newer style round 14 bolt ff and the older style 14ff. ring gear?, axle shafts diff size? or is it just a diff. style case? thanks...

hd casing with more ribs. and diffrent design pinion bearing. also keep a eye out for the pop off drum brakes on them. thay take a totaly diffrent disk kit. the spindles changed and are not the same as the older. but this is all little stuff in the end.
