OK so who's scheming on putting a 6l80E in their rig. I dont plan on doing it anytime soon but someone must be adapting it into a older 4x4. 6 forward gears :waytogo:

Holy smokes!!! With my 3.08's, i would have to be doing 274.6 mph to shift into 6th:doah: :D

Availability?

Cost?

Can you get a standalone computer for it, or at least a manual valvebody?

Details please!!!! or at least a link? What are the gear ratios? 1st, 2nd and 6th are of primary interest to me! :)

Its in the 06 Vette, 07 Escelade, and STS-V. Heres info about it http://www.automotivearticles.com/2006_Cadillac_STS-V_Transmission.shtml

Gears are, First: 4.02, Second: 2.36, Third: 1.53, Fourth: 1.15, Fifth: 0.85, Sixth: 0.67, Reverse: 3.06. And can handle 530 lb/ft. torque. Is available in RWD, AWD, and 4WD.

It has a computer control module built into the tranny. These things will be used by GM globally. Pricing shouldnt be too bad. Someone must hack the computer since they are all designed vehicle specific. But once that happens it shouldnt be much different than swapping in a 4l60E or 4l80E. And its supposed to be smaller than a 4L80E. So I guess we must sit n wait unless someone here gets creative.

from what i hear, the tranny controler is internal to the tranny.

need to hook up some kind of can network to tell it map, tps, stuff like that. or just swap matching engine/computer.

Jet has been making a 6-speed valve body for the 4L80E for some time now

Hmmm. Nothing on their websight. All I could find were a couple references on some forums. From what I could gather, all it does is engage the OD so you dont get a lower first and OD is still just .75:1
2.48:1, 1.86:1, 1.48:1, 1.11:1, 1.0:1, .75:1. And 4th is 1.11:1 while 5th is 1:1 thats a little too close. I'll take the 6 true "gears" with a deaper 1st, and deaper OD.

$1200 for that valve body!! :eek1:

Plus I would still need to buy a 4L80E...

I imagine the total cost involved to get a 6L80E in there is getting up there too.

Makes me like my $100 465's even more.

Oh I dont expect the 6L80E to be cheap, but I think I would rather have it over a 4L80E with a $1200 valve body giving it 2 more "gears."

BAH!! It's got double over drive.:doah: That would be nice to have in my Ram Cummins diesel, but not a gas motor. I'd rather have a close ratio 5spd auto with a regular OD high gear or in this case, 6th.

I think the 6spd Allison double OD is great behind the Dmax, but I think it's a silly idea for a gas truck, unless it's got REAL low rear end gears.

I would use it then put steeper gears in it with the .67 OD. And the .85 is a nice in between gear from 4th and 6th so you wont have to lug around at 1300 RPM. This isnt a truck or 4x4 but after modding my Mustang and adding 4.10 gears I wish it had a 6 speed with double overdrive. Get a top speed gear and a cruising highway gear. Now I top out at 120 in 4th (1:1) then with 5th being .67 it doesnt pull very hard. If I had a .8 5th and then a .62 6th like what came in Cobra's it would help alot.

my dad's got a cobra, that baby flys!

if i had that 6L80E in my truck, i think id go with something crazy in the 6.XX gearing for 42s...and why not when its geared like that:D

we gatta find a cheap place to pick up some of these bad boys;)
