New A Pillar covers

Wow, I really want that to get the tweeters off the dash. I don't $120 want it, but now I'm thinking about just making a filler piece that fits to the A-pillar trim and attach a surface mount tweeter to it from behind. This will go in at about #158 on my list of stuff to do.

Now if those held tweeters and gauges we'd be getting somewhere.

Yeah I'd much rather have a couple gauges on the pillar.

I found this , but I think the website is wrong and this is for a IFS truck. EDIT: Just crossed the number it is for a IFS truck

I bought one of those cheapie Autozone pods for a 2-5/8in gauge and just fiberglassed it on my factory one. After sanding and painting it looks just as good. Im thinking about removing it and buying a dual pod version, even seen 3 pods, but they the smaller gauges, and redoing it.

But I wish they wasnt so expensive or I would have just bought one instead.

Make your own out of fiberglass, it's not hard to do. Use the factory trim piece and make a mold from that using either fiberglass or plaster. Then lay fiberglass in the mold, let it cure and trim to match the factory piece. Add as many pods as you want and where you want after that.

I bought a generic 3-pod one for way cheap. It just sits over the factory trim piece, but painted to match, it doesn't look that bad.

I would consider fiberglassing the whole thing together for pods + tweeters, but I'm not a big fan of the smooth plastic look.

These guys offer to make custom pillar pods: http://www.gaugepods.com/custom.html

Who wants to go in on a group buy?

Attention car clubs and Internet forum groups. We can manufacture custom gauge holders for your vehicle. Prices starting at just $20 for single pods. Full-length pillars as low as $39.

Minimum order quantity as low as 20 per project. Some models may require a higher minimum. All projects must be paid prior to project start. Pricing will be determined after receipt of OEM part for evaluation. Most of our products range from $40-$60 ea. depending on complexity.

I just sent them an email.

I would be interested in a group price aswell, would love to not hit my gauges with my knee all the time.

Kaptcaos has been working on bringing pillar gauge pods to market: http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/s...html?PHPSESSID=g21h5v655dg7mif01imc3u1et1#new

Looks like maybe they are getting close - although that project has been going on for 3 1/2 years already. The design looks fine, but there is still no mention of a price - which is usually what kills these projects.

Here is the response I got from Lo-Tek:

There is not much of a market for these older trucks. And, the cost of producing a production mold is quite expensive. I’m not up on the old trucks but, since most a-pillar trim pieces vary from model to model and change every 3-4 years, it would be impossible and too expensive to make a gauge holder for that wide a year range.

If you can determine what truck models and year range have the exact same trim piece, we can look at the feasibility of getting one made for them.

If we can do something, you are looking at a base minimum of 40 units and probably a price in the $65-70 range.

Email a couple of photo showing the a-pillar.
Best Regards,

Dennis

Lo-Tek, Inc.

I set him straight on the large number of vehicles and model years that would all work with a single mold.

Can anybody tell me what's involved in putting an 81+ A-pillar cover into an earlier truck? I assume they can't work with the full convertibles, but otherwise, how far back would this work with Subs and pickups?
