So with my suburban turning more into a off-road play toy, my silverado not having a hitch anymore and not wanting to the wifes Caddy to tow, I bought this ol' girl. 97' GMC K2500 SLE ECLB, 7.4/4l80e, 14ff with 3.73's. She's got 130 on the clock and had become victim to autozone and jcwhitney accessories. Fear not the de-accessorizing has already begun. By the end of the weekend I plan to have the hood vents, brush guard, off-road lights, mudflaps, and the glue from the vent visors off. It had some sweet decals down the side at one point so the glue residue was the first thing to come off. The bug sheild is already gone as well. There are still parts of the decals on the tailgate so those will be gone this weekend too. Overall the only repairs she needs are a passenger inside door handle, front brakes feel a little warped, could use some new shocks and might have a slight valve cover leak. The plan is to make a nice tow rig and all around work truck. My silverado is my DD so not as worried about fuel mileage in this beast. Here is my proposed list of modifications, let me know what you guys think of the list good or bad.

-Full tune up and change all the fluids. I thought I read 41-993 were the better plugs to run but the stock plugs call for 41-933 so not sure if it's a typo or not
-Raise front 1.5-2" and add small rear block to keep the rake/should help with towing
-285's on the newer 16's that are already on it and put center caps on the wheels
-New shocks maybe Bilstein HD's??
-Diesel front bumper with no impact strip. should help keep engine temps down
-W/T rear bumper to match the smooth front bumper
-Maybe bedliner on the flares and below the lower body line and on the bumpers. kind of a two tone look
-New exhaust to replace the previous owners rusty duals. Dual 3" with dual in dual out magnaflow
-ECM tune. should help with overall performacne as well as correct for tire size
-Last but not least a set of new body style extendable tow mirrors. These one suck!!!

I feel this will give me the overall work truck I need and best of all it will be paid for. I only gave $3800 for her so I felt that was a good deal. Nada lists it for close to $7k. I'll be adding pictures again this weekend with the new improved look. Let me know what you guys think. Later

Huge vote here for the Bilstein 4600's. I LOVED mine for an application like that.

God i wish i had relocated the shock mounts on my new 14ff so that i could have kept them.

What was your impression on how they road? I have experience with 5100's but neve the 4600's. I'm trying to find a good middle ground between too soft and too firm.

They were a bit on the firm side, but thats the way i like it on the road. Firm, but not harsh like the cheaper shocks i have run.

They are significantly stiffer than the 5100's. I put a set of 5100's on mine next, and despite loving their off road performance, I Hated the way the rode on the street.

well I haven't been able to get as much done as I'd hoped. But I will get it done regardless. Still needs a new front bumper but it looks a lot better without the brush guard, off road lights and the grille insert.
