New autometer speedometer

They do seem like a cool idea when stock won't do. What do they use as an antenna? Not that it would be hard to deal with an antenna in the trucks.

From skimming over the description it looks like it has the antenna on the back

if you have electric speedo or easy way to swap it in its easy to use the reg electric unit .

and to program it just need 2 miles of MARKED ( mile marker ) road and bam its calibrated.

these seem neet but not for me .

I've got an autometer GPS driven speedo on my suburban. It works great, once in a while I have to drive a hundred yards or so before it starts reading but it's accurate.

I have been looking into these for sometime as i will be redoing my gauges soon. I have an electric speedo but it is constantly giving me grief and you have to recalibrate it anytime you change something (which i do a lot ) via the dip switch.

I was thinking with one of these you could actually ditch the whole DRAC system and speed sensor right? (NP241)

Also that way later when i put in a doubler or box i don't have to deal with the speed cable **** either.

The DRAC box is a thing of beauty. Imagine all the guys that have to send their computer to be tuned when they change tire sizes...

I just dont see this TBH. So if you drive through some really heavy clouds, oops no speedo for a few seconds?

As stated before, I run a GPS receiver as a speedo. Never had cloud cover be an issue. And I drive it in snow storms taking medical people to their jobs when they are too chicken to drive themselves.

If all you need DRAC for is speedometer, yes....if you have cruise, ABS, and/or an ECM you won't be able to ditch the DRAC. I don't see mention on that speedometer that it outputs what a stock '90-91 truck would need.

I could see the DRAC being somewhat of a pain when changing tires and gears constantly, at the same time, it's a million times better than changing speedo gears and/or ratio boxes, and the setups in general seem to be very reliable...most are what, 24 years old and still going strong? Can't think of much aftermarket stuff made in the past few years that can claim any sort of reliability record like that.

Pretty sure Adamn Dooling runs one of these too

Ya i seriously doubt cloud cover or even tunnels would be an issue or dense wooded areas. I have used cheaper GPS technology with other applications that has worked fine and i haven't come across any reviews where people mention connection issues.

As for the DRAC. Don't get me wrong fellas i agree it is a much better system and i would never just toss it. Was thinking of just pulling it out or attaching it as a back up.

I did not know it controlled the Cruise, and ABS, or connection to the ECM. Looks like i have a little more homework to do on it. Thanks

No gps signal issues here. One time it did cut out for a second but came right back and only once. I love that fact that it's accurate no matter what gearing or tire I run.
