And is the only diff on the 10 bolt the hubs or has anything els been beefed up?

Pictures, pictures, pictures!

14bff/10bolt combination is probably out of a 3/4 ton truck. What year are they from?

Differences between 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton 10-bolts are hubs, backing plates, and calipers. Calipers are physically the same on the outside but have different sizes of piston inside. 3/4 ton backing plates and rotors are larger in diameter. Hubs have different numbers of lugs. Otherwise the axles are identical.

To determine gear ratio exactly, pull the diff. cover and count teeth on the ring & pinion, dividing the numbers to get the gear ratio. It should also be stamped into the ring gear.

To determine gear ratio approximately, turn one hub while keeping the other one stationary, and count the number of pinion turns required to spin the hub two turns.

i paid $ for the pair i think got a good deal but not a hundred percent shure.

Missing a number here? :dunno:

My bad i paid $450 for the pair. I was told they came out of a 79 they will be going in my 80 k5

If the axles are complete and in decent shape that is a reasonable price....not a steal but you did not get ripped off either. Also as mentioned the axles are likely out of a K20 3/4 ton truck as I'm not aware of any "1/2 ton" truck ever coming from the factory with a 14FF.

Front 10-bolts are basically identical strength wise. The wheel hub assembly has 8 wheel lugs, the rotor is obviously 8 lug also and larger in diameter, and the backing plate/caliper mount is taller to accommodate the larger rotor. Locking hubs, spindles, bearings, axle shafts, balljoints, knuckles, yada, yada are all the same. You can easily convert an 1/2 ton 6 lug version to a 3/4 ton 8 lug version.
