I have a set of super single II 16.5x12 rims. Should I send em off and have them beadlocked or just buy new steelies already done. Pro's ...Con's? What do you all think?

Its not gonna stop the inner bead from popping off. Especially with them being that wide.

I think the only way to go for 16.5 beadlocks is a recentered h1

I thought the inner shoulder of the rim wasnt the issue. The outer rim shoulder is the one that is too narrow right? The beads slip off due to narrow shoulder.

Nope. Most 16.5" wheels don't have a bead retainer, that is the problem. Either side.

Even with 15s or 17s you will still pop the inner bead off. Its not just a 16.5 thing.

Its kind of an either or thing.

If you like the aluminum wheels send em off.

If you like the look of steel do those

The inner bead on a 16.5 is always a toss up since there are a lot of variables. The wider wheel will make it worse, depending on tire width of course and what the width actually ends up being after the lock work is done. We ran pressures in the higher single digits with no problems on several vehicles but typically on a 10-ish" wheel and 14-15 wide tires. I considered some construction glue or a couple other tricks but didn't ever have enough trouble with it to justify doing any more.

Man that brings back some good old days of figuring this out. TrailReady built the first set of 16.5's that they had ever done for us when we went to TTC in 2001. Turns out they worked just fine. That said I'd consider an inner lock system these days. Lack of a beefy outer bead is a problem there but may not be for you.

I got a quote from Trail Ready a year or so ago for adding beadlocks to my Welds, seems like it was around $600. For the price I'd go with an inner lock system like Stephen suggested. Iirc, Inner Air Locks are about $575 shipped.

Edit: something else Stephen touched on was the added width from adding the outer beadlocks. I think this adds about 1" overall which is a killer for me as my tires probably couldn't stand a wider wheel.
