new box

im building a new truck box to go behind my truck seat its really just a try to see what it would sound like using plywood but its going to hold 1 10" kicker contender pwoered by a 500 watt jensen amp the box is fully sealed and will either end up with carpet or hurculiner what do yall think about this setup im just making a few boxes out of plywood, for templates on the composite board i have to use since me and some friends are beginning to manufacter some boxes similar to a virtual tech box but not quit it it invovles alot of air chambers that we are patenting any have any suggestions? ideas? or comments? we will be building a special box to go in blazer exploders jimmys and any suv that basically is a downfiring bo on hinges that simply bolts in and houses the amps on top in an amp tray just looking for some imput thanks yall

Sounds cool except for the plywood part. At least use particle board, or even better try to get some MDF, medium density fiberboard. 3/4 inch thickness on both. They would be much more suited for speaker boxes than plywood.

ohh im just experimenting with the plywood i have lots of particle board to use just seeing what plywood would do

If you are planning on selling these things then you need to build the boxes out of MDF.

Ok what does MDF cost and can I get it at most lumber stores?

yeah you can get it at just about any lumber store...........they are right on the money about the 3/4 inch but you might also want to consider adding small strips or wood to the bottom where you are going to screw it togeter and use liquid nails on all the joints before screwing them together as well.........the strength cant hurt and you need to seal it anyways

MDF is a few dollars more than particle board.... If you use the liquid nail be sure its right because that stuff drys harder than a rock... I had to take something apart after it had dryed and had to rip the board to get it apart...

yep liquid nails is what im using now once it sets theres no getting it apart
