New Build ,Need ideas EDIT : New Rig added

yeah, they have a hydraulic bump built into them. I am installing a short poly bump still on the buggy so under a hard hit all that force isn't going through just the shocks and mounting tabs/hardware.

Honestly the price tag for each works out great when you consider not having to buy air bumps. Pretty freekin badddd

So I came across a pretty good deal,A set of 4 Sway-Away RaceRunner 2.0 Series 18" travel air shocks and 2 Evolotioin fab "grader balls" In trade for a set of my extra 4.10 geared geared chevy 1tons and some used 6" chevy springs

Not sure if I'm gonna do it , I'm kinda hung up on the strut idea with a 4-link but thee would get me wheeling for cheaper

So is this the new crawler Gus or a new kind of do it all type. I assume since you are considering something small its not the Alaskan expedition only style rig.

I would do the Jeep. I would not use air shocks. I don't like how they unload up and down and shifting.

ORIs would be super nice but I am not convinced they are the best in every situation.

But they work really well.

As far as the frame on the Jeepster goes, they aren't that complicated considering you would be cutting most of the stuff off, go get some 2x6 rec. tube and make a new frame. 3/16 thick will be fine.

I would also move the wheel wells. They are kind of short stock I kind of think I know where you are going with this one

If I build the jeepster I will use a Scout 2 frame I have at mikes the wheel base is virtually the same and yeah I will strecth it as far as I can. I haven't made the deal on the Airshocks yet it would be a pretty much free deal I have no money in the 1-tons and I can't sell them up here everybody wants 2.5 tons .

I've been reading about how airshocks will "push off" and that would suck but I have seen lots off guys run them on the same terrain I like to wheel.

Oh and yeah its gonna be the new crawler, not much use for an expo rig in New Mexcio
I may go with the air schocks now, and switch to ORI struts later on if I don't like them

thats the short cut way and not nearly as fun:rolleyes: sell 2-3 of them trucks and buy a scout II to build:waytogo: no cooler truck ever created:D thats why I've had 3

If you decide to run the airshocks definitely setup a suckdown winch.

I've lost count of the scouts I've had lol my favorite was a 80 Terra pickup with the SD33T 4-speed and dana 300. It was my first rockcrawler when I moved to New Mexico It ended up with a TBI 350/SM465/205 4.56 geared tons and 40" gumbo mudders I wheeled it hard until there wasn't much left and then stripped it to build my 90 blazer which never really got finished .

as for tube frame I don't have the time our tooling to build one so that idea is out.

Yeah thats the plan, not sure if I want to even bother Links are gonna be really outside my budget for this project I priced it out last night and its gonna be over 2000.00 in parts to link it . I'm considering 1-linking it but not sure how I feel about that.

What factors are you pricing in? Could use sq tube links and bushing on one end to lower cost.

I will use Sch 80 our SCH 120 for my links so thats not part of my figures as I can get that for free.

I hadn't thought of using bushings on one end, that would almost cut my cost in half.

when it comes to buying joint from like ruff stuff wait till a holiday, they often have 20% off and free shipping sales too.
