I got the idea for the bumper from this site. I think Dremu and Tankgril? cant think of the other right now. I will edit it in later. Thanks for the great ideas!

The Front bumper is a 2x8 rectangle tube, 1/4" wall. I welded two bolts for the fairlead inside the tube so they are permenant now. Then welded a flat piece of metal to the top and bottom of the fairlead opening to make sure there is not any flex around the opening for the fairlead. The "D" ring mounts are 1" solid steel and go through the tube and are bolted to the frame. I sandwiched the frame between the 1" plate and a 1/4" of plate on the outside for good measure. The tube itself is welded to the 1" plate on both the front and back side. I also welded some extra metal around the front portion just to ensure it is extra solid. And I liked the look.

The trailer I had made. The storage box houses a battery and charging wires along with conduit for a winch on the trailer front. Now I have to trade my Half-ton Silverado in for a Duramax 2500HD. I am waiting until 2013 trucks come out though. The half-ton pulls it fine on level to small inclines but it is a dog up any decent hill. It has a 10,325lb towing capacity but it just doesnt have the balls when it comes to hills. I also need the extra strength in the rear springs. I have to put the truck further back than I like due to how far the truck tends to sag. So I just gotta be nice to my truck till about October and then trade in for the 2500.

Just thought I would share. Oh, I built a rear bumper also. Same Idea as the front except it is a 2x6 1/4" rectangle and it isn't bend inward.

Here are some pics.

Looks great!

What are the specs on your trailer? 22'?

Woot, I'm famous. (TankGrrl, btw, is the Smurf camo truck in question.)

Seeing as my design is part stolen from Scott '4x4High', that might be the other one.

Nice rigs, both truck and trailer.

excellent, thanks for the links. Now I'm just curious how much you spent on steel to build them. I noticed in the chicago area that steel is $$$ these days.

Its 18' deck with a 2' dovetail so 20' overall. The Gross vehicle weight is 12K. I had the deck lifted up two inches and the fenders are reinforced so I don't bend them when I run over them. So far they have not budged. I am VERY happy with this trailer so far.

Yeah, that is it. You, Tank and 4x4. I bent the two outer section inward, left the bottom of the tube on to bend into place and weld. Nice ideas from you guys that turned out great! I have had to be pulled out twice now and neither bumper even twitched. I got so stuck I had to have a large tow truck unstick me. I tried my tractor, my other truck, a come-along, nothing even moved me much. So the bumpers got a workout and held up great.

I dont' have a build thread for them yet. I took pictures but the thumbnails in windows shows a pic of something totally different than what the picture is so I have to go through all of them and rename/reidentify. I have no idea how that happened.

I spent about $58 bucks on the rear bumper and about $120 on the front. I bought the plate in the correct length and cut it myself with a torch. Then used a grinder to smooth out the contours then a flapdisk to get them nice and rounded/smooth for painting.
