Check out what I just scored... it's a custom bumper that's hollowed out for a locking toolbox. I figure it's a little large for the K5, but it probably won't look so weird once I get a tire mount on it. Pics coming once I get it mounted.

Nice score, but I would think on a K5 it is going to hurt your departure angle quite a bit. Although the picture could be deceiving on the overall width.

The box is 12" long and 8" deep in the middle. I'm hoping to get it tucked high and away so the departure angle isn't so bad. It's pretty stout, so I don't think I'd mind bumping it every now and then.

If you can get it high enough it might be ok, and will look ok with the tire rack there. No matter what you do it is going to hit your departure angle, but it should be beefy enough to take it. Just don't get it hung up enough to pull the rear wheels off the ground, not sure the frame could take it.:wink1:

That there is an obnoxiously HOOGE bumper :D, and as said, for a 'wheeler could be a hindrance.

That said, I am jealous; I SOO want one, admittedly for my towrig, which is already stupidly long and heavy :haha:

Unless the brackets go back onto the frame *top* as well as the sides, and back a foor or more, probably to the rear spring hangers, I betcha that on a really good incline, the leverage of the bumper depth will bend something.

:dunno: Anyway, the important thing is that you're happy with it :deal:

In the first pic, what's the blue thing in the violin case looking thing? Is that like an 18" Hi-Lift? :haha:

Yeah, it's large, but it does solve my toolbox problem. The brackets go almost all the way to my shackle flip, but no bolts are back that far yet. Next time I rip it all apart I'll pull the gas tank and tack weld some nuts in the inner frame and add a couple of bolts to the back (front?) of the bracket. There are no bolts on the top of the frame, but there is a truss of sorts on the bracket that fits up under the frame. Not bad for a $300 bumper w/ locking toolbox.

In the long term (whenever I move my shackle flip back for longer springs), I might even weld the DIY4x mounts to the bumper bracket, but I'd have to learn to weld first.

It's mounted up pretty well, 3 grade 8 bolts on each side, and I can hi-lift the hell out of the rear-end now. However, the estimated 200-250lbs lowered the back of the truck by an inch. Zero rates will be ordered today to fix that.

In the first pic, that's the case for my Ryobi sawzall. It's a toolbox, so it needs tools in it. :P
