New carb, idle surge. Need to adjust timing?

There is no barb or plug there. Only an open hole... And it has almost vacuum as the full vacuum port on right of the carb. Should it have come plugged then?

Just called edlebrock they said the vacuum port is suppose to be there. I guess it's a metered vacuum port? Seems like quite a big leak to be metered though?...

Idle seems to be doing good now.

Only problem left is the start of the truck. I have to turn it over for 2 seconds while flooring it to get it to start up. Any idea what this could be? It didn't start till I installed this new carb...

Thanks guys

if you had asked, 9 out of 10 of us would have said quad.... next time..... :deal:

flooring it means it's flooded..... wont fire unless it's got that much more air via the plate being open...

you may wanna pull a couple plugs and take a peak, sooted will verify that...

just replaced the plugs a few days ago, so they should look brand new.

If its flooded, is that something that I need to configure on the carb?

What quad jet would you have recommended? Maybe I can get summit to take it back since its been such a headache....

havent checked the plugs since installing the new carb because they were a couple of days old when installing the new carb. Should they be discolored after only a couple of weeks of flooding?

Could my float level in the carb be causing the flooding issue? ...or maybe my choke is still not setup correctly?

yup, it's actually easier to read a prob sometimes when they are very fresh....

and yes, either of those could be causing an issue.. float will cause it to come out the overflow, into the motor.. and the choke for obvious reasons...

stage 2 Jet's seem to be a good popular buy these days in quads... Summit carries them...

and the float could be flooding because of the fuel pressure, among having it set wrong
fuel pressure is a good point. you don't happen to have an electric fuel pump do you?

my buddy has one installed on his land cruiser and he had to install an adjustable pressure regulator because it would keep flooding out the carb.

just replaced the mechanical fuel pump last month:

Wouldn't I see fuel spilling out though??

yup, out the bowl vent... mechanical pump, I HIGHLY doubt your pressure is too high...

on my buddies truck we never saw fuel actually dumping out, but you could smell it.

agreed. it usually doesn't happen with mechanical pumps, at least never that I've seen.

So if not flooding, why else would I need to floor it to get it to start?

Could the fuel be retracting out of the bowls somehow?

If it is flooding, what else would cause it if it's not the pump. Floats too high? Needle clogged?

Damn brand new carb ...
