new carrier for 12 bolt axle?

i have a dana 44 front axle and 12 bolt rear axle open diff, off a 1976 blazer
i'm not sure of the gear ratio, maybe 3.08 or 3.42
but i want to gear them with 4.88 gears and i need to know if i will need a new carrier for the axles

For the 12 bolt, I believe if you get thick gears, you will not need a new carrier. Thats what what i got with my 4.56.

yea ive heard about using thick gears but am not sure if they work for 4.88 gears, i know that some carriers will work with 4.56 gears already, 4.88 might be pushin it

My dad just put a set of 4.88 thick gears in his 12bolt. Yukons. No problems that I'm aware of. He's a member here actually, fred2mihi.
