ok guys i have been researching for days and i have narrowed it down to 3 compressors

puma PK6060V 12 cfm at 90psi 60 gal $529

morgan RE6580A 3 cylinder 14 cfm at 90psi 80 gal ( its reconditioned) $499

quincy 2V41C60VC 15.4 at 100psi 60 gal $1299

i really don't have 1300 bucks to spend so this would be a credit card puchase that i will be couching it for a month or so over but?????

i have read some bad reviews on the morgans and some good ones too i read that they are rebuilt kobalt compressors

the puma says usa but the guy at northern said its a taiwan compressor

anyone have ANY advice on this or maybe another recommendation?? i don't want to buy another compressor for a very long time

i will be painting sandblasting and doing lots and lots of work from home with it

I own that Quincy...

that's not even a fair comparison to those other 2... the 2 stage Quincy just kills it, all you'll ever need for a home shop....

I know others have had good success with the comparable IR 2 stage.. usually it's about $100 cheaper than that Quincy.. think Dave just bought one..

I REALLY want that compressor but it is way more than I need to spend. I have already burnt up 2 smaller compressors and I want one that will last. My dad told me to buy one of the morgan's but I just don't know???? How much cfm do you think I need for sandblasting and painting?

sand blasting / painting / body tools all EAT CFM BIG TIME :deal:

you have spent cash on cheep 2x now and if me dont make it a 3rd.

buy big and never look back. and if ever need to sell it better resale value also.

The Quincy hands down. Sandblasting EATS CFM like sweetk30 said as does orbital sanders and die grinders.

and I gotta say, I really like Quincy as a company..

the biggest advantage when sandblasting is the higher pressures of the 2 stage...

Ryoken how loud is your compressor?? Can you carry on a conversation with it running?

it's not bad.... not as quiet as I had hoped it would be, as i'd heard the 2 stage where a bit quieter... but it's not bad, yeah, you could have a conversation i suppose...

i know guys that run the air inlet threw a 4 cyl car muffler to make it a LOT quieter. thats were most of the noise comes from .

Here is my choice lol had to get the best I could maybe it will last 15 or 20 years hey ryoken how did you break yours in?

to be honest, i don't remember the procedure.. it's right in the literature for it.. iirc, you run it no load for a period of time, maybe it was 20 minutes or something like that....

gimme a bit, I'll try to find my papers on it here..

Well I went ahead and run it 40. Min no load then let it build to pressure that's what my neighbor told me to do so maybe that's ok

yeah, just make sure you do that first oil change on schedule...

hey ryoken does your compressor ever make a groaning or moaning noise? not sure how to describe it but when its hot and i use a lot of air like when i am sand blasting it makes a really annoying groaning noise coming from the tank outlet or valve not sure possibly the ingersol rand regulator??? it vibrates the pipes and everything.

it only does it when everything is hot and i have moved the valve away from the tank hoping that would fix it but it only slightly changed the pitch

its really humid here so i thought maybe it was steam coming out or something????

i am getting a lot of water in my filter and lines so thats why i thought maybe steam any ideas??

oh and by the way this thing barely keeps up with sand blasting

mine runs my 20 lb blaster all day pretty much and really doesn't do much "catching up".... and doesn't make any type of groaning that I noticed.... I run a 1/4 turn on/off valve right at the tank... maybe it's in how you have it plumbed?

I have a 50lb and it runs almost the whole 50lbs then shuts off I refill then it runs some more I never have to let it catch up but it barely keeps up and I have run it probably 20 hrs like that already

I have a 1/2 inch valve about a foot from the tank it was directly on the tank so I moved it

I kinda think its my regulator but????? Who knows what's weird is that it only does it after about 20 tp 30 minutes of running it
