new daily driver

Alright this suck. my glow plugs will not come on with the switch. power steering feels like it going out. and the motor makes rattle from the pulleys.
Now the news that got me. I have a buddy with a k30 dulley. about a week agor a guy shows up at his house and asked him if he wants another. my buddy looks at him and ask how much and 400 dollars later he own 2.

To top it all off he asksaid me to trade my blazer for the new truck. I tell him I'll think about it. calls me later to tell me maybe not. man some guy have all the luck.

Yeah I just need to vent. it seemed like all the problems hit at the same time.
I'm off today so I'm going to check it all over. it's got to be some thing simple that I keep over thinking.

Ok so the steering issue was me being in a rush and for got to pick up my socket wrench and it was jamming steering up. the glow plug in have to hot wire but can get them to fire. so that's narrowed down to a starter solenoid and some wires that could be wrong.

Do you mean to say starter solenoid? Or are you talking about the GP relay?

The po hacked In ford starter relay to warm up the glow plugs. it was a real hack job! wire nut every 3 to 4 inches down the wire wires that lead to no where.

Can I swap the rods from an electric tailgate to a manual? The old tailgate thats on the truck now is electric and I want manual. Do you guys have any info on this?

Bought a suburban that has a good 5.3 so i can swap in but i have a few questions.
1.) Do i keep the th400 or swap in the newer tranny?
2.) Best motor mounts so i can keep my drive shafts.
3.) Its a 6.2 now so am i needing a new fuel system? Lines and tank.

What axle gearing & tire size are you running?

35in tire
The truck came with 4.11 front and rear.

Running the newer O/D tranny will be a bit on the anemic side for a 5.3, but I would rather have the 4 speed than the TH400, if they're both working correctly. This is assuming your donor rig has a 4L60, the 4L80 has a slightly better (for you) 4th gear ratio.

So to make this a decent dd would i need higher gears? I still dont understand gearing so sorry.

If you go with lower gears (bigger numbers, slowing your wheels down more than little numbers would), your engine will be spinning faster at highway speed. 1800RPM @ 60MPH is slow for a 5.3 engine, so it will be somewhat gutless. Running without O/D, OTOH, will leave you at 2600RPM @ 65. Also not terrible for a 5.3, and you'll feel much more power available at that engine speed. But you'll waste fuel and wear the engine out faster.

Higher gears (smaller numbers) will bring that cruising RPM number down, which is fine if you keep the TH400 (3rd gear is the same between the two transmissions, so that part of the chart works either way). But if you have the 4-speed lying around, lower gears would make that one happier on the road. I don't have a lot of 5.3 experience, so you should talk to those who do. But I would be aiming for 2000-2200 RPM @ 65 for a DD rig. 1800 will be alright as long as it's not constantly downshifting every time you hit a grade.
