Hey guys, just picked up a new to me 1500 HD crew cab for my wife to daily drive.

I was wanting to get a spare PCM and send it out for a tune then swap it into the truck.

Who is the go to tune guy now? Does the PCM have to come from exactly an 01 1500HD with a 6.0 and 4l80e or does any (around the same year) 6.0 4l80e combo PCM work?

I was reading the crank could re-learn it self after the truck idles for like 15 min. Is this true?

Thanks for any help!

ECM just needs to be the same style. So if its an 01 with a red-blue half meg ecm, thats all it needs to be.

Crank learn will probably not be a problem. I have seen only a few that have needed it.

There is no reason to send the ecm, unless you want to. I can ship a handheld. You pull the stock tune, email it, I mod it, email back and you flash it in. Then ship back the handheld. You just have to download some software, it can be done on a desktop.

Nifty, I would be interested in doing that. I was half tempted to run two ECM's. One for daily driving and fun stomping of the pedal and then leave one stock for if I was towing so I wouldn't damage the trans.

I was interested in just having the motor tuned and having it run on 87 octane. I was thinking of having torque limiting reduced as well; don't think I want to do a full delete. I would like to retain tow haul mode. Would it be worth adjusting shift points / line pressures?

I have a 5.3L ECM tuned for Premium in my K5 and I cant say I have noticed enough of a power increase or MPG increase to justify the extra fuel costs... Would you guys be able to see a data log of the ECM in the K5 and fine tune the current tune?

I would not start with someone else's tune. Not being cruel, just not what we do. If you didnt notice much of an improvement then I doubt it a very good tune. Gen 3 wakes up very well with a good tune.

As far as different tunes. Dont worry about that. Tow haul will be there. Gas engines want to run efficient, max efficiency is very close to max power. With a diesel thats a different story.
