New disc brake conversion update. pictures added 2/7/07

FOr the "slightly" newer crowd

It's time for a rear brake job and wonder if there's ANY chance I can get a rear disc swap for my 93 14 bolt FF .....

cam

maybe 19.5s one day when I win the lottery

Not really sure...

I've never pulled the drums, but I know they come off.....they are removable drums....

nice twin setup

That's a nice twin caliper setup. What master cylinder is reccomended, since it will take twice the fluid displacement to actuate two calipers. Or maybe the stock master cylinder is ok.

Also what rotor are you using, year and model vehicle?

Still doing the testing on these. I'm also using a smaller caliper which requires less fluid. Problem right now is finding a small enough rotor with 8 lugs. So far our prototype has a custom cut rotor which kinda sucks. Had to keep moving forward with it though.

IF that custom rotor ends up being more expensive than the std chevy 8 lug front rotor it may hurt the overall saving you get with a thinner spacer?

The custom cut rotor is just for the twin caliper mount. Not the standard single mount kit. You are definitely right about that!

ok... sounds a lot better then :D

By chance do you have anything to fit a dodge 60 ff. I cant seem to find anything

Testing completed and back to square one!

Did the last testing on the setup today. For right now we are ditching the new design. The last test which simulates extreme lack of maintenance in an absolute worst case scenario as in no pads left and rotor turned to minimum thickness or slightly beyond would cause piston leakage. So for now this has been shelved until a suitable caliper/rotor combination can be found.

Time tested and true we'll keep on doing the disc brake conversion designed for the Chevy 3/4 ton caliper and rotor. Tomorrow I'll post some pics, we did change the look a bit but otherwise the same conversion pieces.

Pretty much the same bracket. Lightening holes will now be on all brackets in stock. Incidentally, for some time now we've also been welding the two 3/8" rings together.
